divh2Deputy Director Of The Central Operations Desk (COD)/h2pThe Department of Correction seeks to appoint a Deputy Director of the Central Operations Desk (COD), who, under the direction of the Deputy Commissioner of Security Operations and the Executive Director of the Central Operations Desk (COD), with wide latitude for the exercise of independent action and decision-making, will support the Executive Director of COD in leading and managing the agencys 24/7 operational communications and incident reporting system and unit. The chosen candidate will have demonstrated experience in the management of day-to-day operational communications such as maintaining situational awareness, coordinating emergency communications, incident documentation, and familiarity with how to manage the operations of a robust incident reporting system. The selected candidates responsibilities may include but will not be limited to the following:/pulliTake direction from the Deputy Commissioner of Security Operations, Executive Director of COD, and senior leaders;/liliLead the operations on behalf of the Executive Director of COD in their absence, when temporarily needed, or when specifically designated;/liliSupport the management of COD as the central exchange of agency incident information;/liliWrite, edit, and send incident alerts, notifications, and reports;/liliCoordinate non-incident special alerts as directed;/liliCoordinate information sharing with internal stakeholders to monitor and update the status of incident response(s);/liliCommunicate with external inter-agency partners such as the NYPD, FDNY/EMS and other agencies as needed;/liliSupport and supervise a quality assurance workflow to ensure alerts, notifications, and reports are meaningful, accurate, and timely;/liliEnsure adequate staffing for upcoming tours of duty, and address any scheduling changes;/liliEnsure that communication about incidents within jails, outposts, department locations/operations, and transportation operations are properly processed and disseminated;/liliConfirm the scope and nature of reported incidents, ensure that agency notifications are performed, analyze information from multiple sources, and prepare notifications, reports, and updates for dissemination to senior executive staff and senior officials of the city;/liliSupport records access, retention, and management needs;/liliSupport communications in the field for outpost/offsite incidents;/liliWork with stakeholders in developing relevant training for staff, and coordination of staff training;/liliRepresent COD at meetings as needed or designated with both internal and external partners;/liliWork closely and collaboratively with executive staff to effectively promote all policy positions and policy strategies to critical stakeholders and external entities to achieve desired outcomes;/liliIdentify trends in incident alert/correspondence to find root causes of recurring problems and implement solutions;/liliPerform related duties as assigned./li/ulpPreferred Skills:/pulliAbility to be on call and/or work after business hours and on weekends./liliFamiliarity with emergency management, incident response operations, law enforcement, and correction;/liliAt least three years of executive management experience in a law enforcement field and/or agency with an incident reporting system;/liliExperience in city, state and federal government a plus;/liliExcellent writing, editing, communication, inter-personal, time-management and organizational skills;/liliAbility to problem solve, prioritize tasks, and to delegate when appropriate./liliAbility to retain confidential information./liliAbility to work quickly under pressure and strict deadlines while still ensuring a high-quality work product./liliPossess commitment to a collaborative work ethic;/liliAbility to engage and build relationships with a range of stakeholders and community partners;/liliProfessional experience working with a range of stakeholders, including hard-to-engage communities, local government, non-profits, business organizations and academic institutions;/liliKnowledge of communications, community engagement practice, recruitment, and marketing; Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), social media and other data sources./li/ulpMinimum Qualifications:/pp1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and four years of satisfactory full-time experience in the field of investigations, auditing, law enforcement, criminal justice, or in a major operational area of the agency in which the appointment is to be made, 18 months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, or executive capacity or supervising a staff performing investigations or related work; or 2. Education and/or experience equivalent to 1 above.
