Position Summary:
The organist of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church is responsible for leading congregational music during the worship services of the year, under the supervision of the Choirmaster. The organist should be able to promote congregational singing through careful and intentional interpretation of all congregational music. Additionally, the organist will strive to strengthen the congregation’s understanding of music and its use in worship.
Primary Duties:
Prepare music for services, including but not limited to Morning Prayer, Holy Communion, and Evensong: Hymns, Preludes, Postludes, Music for Communion
Prepare and serve as rehearsal accompanist for choir on Wednesday nights, Sunday mornings, and other times as called
Secure substitutes, in collaboration with the Choirmaster, when needed
Arrange for extra musicians in collaboration with the Choirmaster, when needed
Maintain organ and pianos by scheduling necessary tunings and possible repairs when needed, in collaboration with the Choirmaster
Additional Duties, as Needed:
Play weddings and funerals as requested (paid by families), finding substitutes if needed
Participate as accompanist for churchwide events not described above, when needed, or secure substitute if necessary
Additional responsibilities as assigned by Choirmaster or Rector
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Music
Proficiency in both organ and piano performance and literature
Familiarity with liturgical worship
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Music
5 or more years of experience serving in a church
Experience with music composition and/or arranging
Experience with other musical instruments
