SUMMARY The Director will provide program leadership in collaboration with building leaders and staff to ensure a supportive learning environment for students. Key responsibilities include overseeing curriculum and high-quality instruction, leading data-driven program improvements, monitoring compliance, planning professional development, and partnering with families and community agencies. The Director of Center Programs is also responsible for ensuring the training, coordination, and compliance of special education services at each building site, in collaboration with member district administrators. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ● Lead and oversee the Meadowview School center-based programs, focusing on curriculum development, staff development, and student achievement. ● Ensure the implementation of school improvement strategies, working closely with staff to meet the needs of students. ● Assist parents and students with understanding their legal rights under federal and state special education rules and regulations. ● Set and ensure the effective and efficient achievement of program goals that align with the district's mission, vision, and state school improvement requirements. ● Review student records to determine eligibility and placement in special education programs, in collaboration with local school districts. ● Maintain effective communication with staff, parents, and external agencies regarding the educational and behavioral needs of enrolled students. ● Coordinate transportation services for Meadowview students, ensuring safe and reliable transportation. ● Assist with the preparation and implementation of program budgets, allocating resources effectively for program needs. ● Oversee requisitions, the allocation of instructional materials, and ensure that school facilities are conducive to a quality learning environment. ● Manage personnel processes, including recruitment, selection, hiring, mentoring, professional development, and performance evaluation of staff. ● Maintain a positive school climate that fosters learning, good citizenship, cooperation, and acceptable behavior. ● Supervise and support professional, paraprofessional, and office staff to ensure smooth school operations. ● Lead and coordinate the school improvement planning process, collaborating with relevant stakeholders. ● Oversee state and district student assessments, ensuring compliance with federal and state timelines. ● Ensure adherence to state and federal regulations governing special education, including evaluation, IEP development, and program implementation. ● Develop and revise curricula as needed to meet the evolving needs of students. ● Support the implementation of evidence-based instructional and assessment practices with staff to meet student needs. ● Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS (If Applicable): Required ● Valid Michigan Administrator Certificate. ● Valid Michigan teaching certificate with at least (1) endorsement in special education. ● Approval or eligibility for temporary approval as a Director or Supervisor of Special Education by the Michigan Department of Education. EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: Required ● A master’s degree in special education administration, supervision, or special education or enrolled in a program to earn one. Desired ● Previous special education administrative experience. ● Three (3) or more years of special education teaching experience in a center-based program and/or working with students with cognitive and/or emotional impairments. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES ● Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in the implementation of special education programs and services, including compliance with state and federal mandates. ● Knowledge of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), including academic and behavioral intervention strategies to support students with significant needs. ● Strong understanding of instructional practices aligned with Michigan academic standards for students with disabilities. ● Ability to interpret and apply special education laws, regulations, and policies across local, state, and federal levels. ● Ability to use data systems and student performance data to inform instruction, guide program decisions, and support continuous improvement. ● Skill in developing and maintaining systems that ensure program effectiveness, legal compliance, and improved student outcomes. ● Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively and meet deadlines in a compliance-driven environment. ● Strong leadership and supervisory skills, including staff evaluation, coaching, and team development. ● Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks based on program and student needs. ● High level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion when working with students, families, staff, and community agencies. ● Excellent verbal and written communication skills to engage and collaborate with district leaders, staff, families, and external partners. ● Ability to build and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with a variety of stakeholders. ● Ability to use a range of technology tools and applications to support instruction, communication, data analysis, and administrative functions.. PHYSICAL EFFORT & WORKING CONDITIONS: ● Sitting – Position requires a moderate degree of sitting. ● Standing/Walking/Bending/Stooping – Position requires a moderate degree of these activities. ● Lifting – Position requires a minimal amount of lifting. SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS ● Position may require occasional work evenings and weekends. ● Position requires the employee to provide his/her own transportation for job-related travel. ● Position requires regular and predictable attendance at the workplace.
