About the Role
The Company is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to play a pivotal role in integrating legal strategy and support into its mission-driven initiatives. The successful candidate will be responsible for defining legal strategy and risk management, developing and maintaining a legal and reputational risk management framework, and establishing legal templates, practices, and policies that balance compliance with the flexibility to accelerate execution. This senior leader will also be tasked with shaping legal strategies for programs, products, partnerships, and governance, ensuring that all initiatives are launched with clear expectations, protections, and measurable outcomes. Additionally, the role involves leading legal transformation, driving continuous legal education, and managing legal operations and team performance.
Applicants for the Senior Legal Counsel position at the company should have a J.D. degree and be an active member in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar. A minimum of 7 years of legal experience, with a preference for 3-5 years in-house or with a law firm practice serving non-profit clients, is required. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise in nonprofit law, contracts including grants, intellectual property, compliance, and general operations and risk management. Strong leadership skills, excellent communication, and the ability to influence at the executive level are essential. The role also involves collaborating cross-functionally, particularly with finance, HR, and IT, to integrate legal processes with operational and financial systems.
