About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced **real estate professional** to serve as an instructor for our comprehensive three-week intensive program, designed to introduce high school students to the exciting world of real estate. This course is an integral part of the prestigious UCLA Summer Discovery Program on the UCLA Westwood campus. If you are passionate about real estate, adept at translating complex industry topics into engaging, hands-on learning experiences, and excited about taking full ownership of course content and curriculum development, we’d love to hear from you.
Program Overview & Topics
This immersive summer course offers high school students an in-depth foundation in both residential and commercial real estate markets. The curriculum combines theoretical instruction with extensive practical applications in one of the world's most diverse real estate markets—Los Angeles. As the primary architect of course content, you will shape a program that not only informs but inspires future real estate professionals.
Key Aspects of the Program:
Content Ownership & Career Path Exploration:** As the instructor, you will be responsible for designing and implementing a curriculum that introduces ambitious students to the diverse career opportunities in real estate. Your leadership will ensure that the course content is both engaging and comprehensive, setting the stage for students to envision a future in the industry.
Comprehensive Curriculum Development: Own the development of detailed lesson plans that cover essential topics such as real estate market dynamics, financial principles, legal frameworks, market analysis, and property transactions. Your content will blend academic theory with actionable industry insights to forge a well-rounded understanding.
Experiential Learning Integration:** Develop practical learning experiences by incorporating multiple site visits throughout Los Angeles and facilitating project-based work. This hands-on approach will allow students to connect classroom theories with real-world applications directly.
Global and Local Market Insights: Craft course materials that primarily focus on the U.S. real estate market while also providing international perspectives. This ensures that all students gain valuable global insights applicable to real estate principles anywhere in the world.
Career Preparation Emphasis: Design content that equips students with the foundational knowledge required for pursuing their real estate license and building a career in the industry. Your curriculum will provide them with a competitive advantage and a clear understanding of the industry's complexities.
Program:** UCLA Summer Discovery Program
Dates:** June 30 – July 17
Schedule:** Monday through Thursday from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM
Compensation:
- Competitive pay for instruction hours
- Additional compensation for preparation time (including syllabus creation and lesson planning)
- Paid time for student evaluations and oversight during site visits
Key Responsibilities
Instruction:
Deliver engaging, insightful lessons on diverse real estate topics tailored to high school students. Curriculum Development:
Take full ownership of designing a dynamic syllabus and creating interactive lesson plans that integrate theoretical content with practical applications. Site Visits Leadership: Coordinate and lead multiple site visits, offering students first-hand insights into both residential and commercial real estate environments. Project Guidance : Mentor students during project work, ensuring they effectively apply classroom concepts to real-world scenarios. Evaluation : Conduct student assessments and provide constructive feedback to foster continuous improvement. Collaborative Programming : Work closely with the UCLA Summer Discovery Program coordinators to ensure that the course content aligns with program goals and meets the needs of young learners. --- Qualifications Industry Expertise: Proven experience in real estate with a strong grasp of market dynamics, finance, legal issues, and practical applications. Educational Experience: Demonstrated ability or interest in mentoring and instructing high school students; prior experience in youth education or mentorship programs is a plus. Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, with the capacity to simplify complex ideas while keeping the content engaging and accessible. Curriculum Development: Strong aptitude for developing detailed lesson plans and innovative learning activities that encourage hands-on engagement. Adaptability: Ability to adjust technical content for a younger audience, ensuring that theoretical concepts are relatable and actionable.
