A well-established professional services firm is seeking a Tax Manager to oversee its tax function, with a strong emphasis on State and Local Tax (SALT) matters, particularly related to pass-through entities. This position will be responsible for ensuring full compliance with evolving multi-jurisdictional tax laws and leading strategic initiatives to optimize the firm’s overall tax position. Key Responsibilities: Lead SALT planning, compliance, and reporting for a complex, multi-state partnership structure. Oversee the preparation and review of various state filings, including composite and withholding returns for pass-through entities. Manage income sourcing and allocation issues across multiple jurisdictions. Serve as a strategic advisor on SALT matters impacting partner-level and entity-level tax obligations. Monitor and respond to state tax audits, inquiries, and correspondence with regulatory agencies. Direct the preparation and submission of filings related to sales/use tax, property tax, 1099 reporting, and other local tax obligations. Evaluate new legislation and its impact on firm operations, particularly those affecting flow-through taxation and state-level entity taxes. Guide tax planning for complex transactions such as ownership changes, partner admissions/exits, and profit allocations. Coordinate the withholding and remittance of taxes for both resident and non-resident partners. Ensure accurate partner-level reporting of income, deductions, and credits in accordance with current SALT rules. Collaborate with finance leadership to align tax strategies with broader financial goals and risk mitigation efforts. Provide tax education and updates to internal stakeholders on developments in state taxation and firm-specific impacts. Supervise internal team members and/or external advisors supporting compliance and advisory functions. Seniority level
