Position Overview Ben Franklin Technology Partners (CNP) is the largest early‑stage investor in central and northern Pennsylvania, supporting technology‑based startups across 32 counties. We are seeking a highly analytical
Financial Specialist
with deep experience evaluating early‑stage companies, forecasting growth‑stage cash flows, and translating complex financial data into actionable insights.
This role will (1) conduct rigorous financial due diligence, develop financial models, monitor portfolio company health, and (2) provide the financial intelligence that shapes CNP’s investment strategy and board‑level decisions.
Core Responsibilities
Investment Due Diligence and Financial Analysis – Conduct comprehensive financial due diligence on prospective portfolio companies, evaluate early‑stage ventures, analyze projections, cash‑flow statements, burn‑rate analyses, revenue models, and capital requirements. Identify financial risks and opportunities, prepare detailed analyses, and present findings to the investment committee.
Portfolio Company Financial Health Monitoring and Advisory – Track burn rates, cash runway, funding milestones, and compliance with covenants. Provide financial guidance and recommendations to improve forecasting, optimize working capital, manage burn rates, and prepare for future fundraising. Benchmark performance against comparable companies.
Financial Reporting, Forecasting, and Internal Analytics – Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial forecasts and reports for leadership and the board. Develop ad‑hoc financial models and analytical tools. Maintain a centralized database of portfolio company financials.
Operational and Administrative Responsibilities – Prepare and manage project and grant‑specific budgets, track grants and contracts, perform data entry, support accounts payable/receivable functions, and support the annual independent audit.
Special Projects and Strategic Initiatives – Assist in preparing periodic forecasts and budget processes, support regulatory reporting, contribute to organizational financial strategy, operational cost savings, and portfolio company financial health initiatives.
Skills and Experience Direct experience in any four of the following:
Analyzing early‑stage or startup companies for investment potential
Conducting financial due diligence on venture capital or private equity investments
Managing or monitoring a portfolio of early‑stage company investments
Forecasting and managing cash flow, burn rate, and capital runway for growth‑stage companies
Financial analysis and advisory work in technology or manufacturing sectors
Building financial models for valuation, scenario analysis, or investment decision‑making
Working with early‑stage company founders to improve financial management practices
Conducting financial audits or supporting audit processes for private companies
Required Skills and Competencies
Financial Analysis and Modeling
– Build, interpret, and communicate complex financial models. Proficiency in Excel at an expert level. Understanding of GAAP, financial statements, cash‑flow analysis, and valuation methodologies.
Business Acumen
– Strong business orientation, entrepreneurial mindset, strategic thinking, and analytical problem‑solving skills.
Due Diligence and Risk Assessment
– Conduct financial due diligence, assess financial risks, and evaluate capital requirements and runway.
Communication and Stakeholder Engagement

Desired Experience and Background The ideal candidate will have direct experience working with venture capital, private equity, or early‑stage startup investment environments, and familiarity with term sheets, equity structures, and investment‑stage financing. Prior experience supporting portfolio monitoring, investment due diligence, or financial advisory services in a growth‑capital context is highly desirable.
