POSITION SPECIFICS Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Central and Northern Pennsylvania, Inc. (Ben Franklin/CNP) is a leading early-stage investor and supporter of technology-based startup companies across 32 counties. Headquartered in State College with offices in Erie, Harrisburg, Lancaster, and Johnstown, Ben Franklin/CNP invests in high-risk, early-stage ventures and provides robust management assistance to help local entrepreneurs launch startups and create jobs.
We are seeking an analytical, strategically minded
Financial Specialist
with deep experience evaluating early-stage companies, forecasting growth-stage cash flows, and translating complex financial data into actionable insights to inform investment decisions.
Core Responsibilities
Investment Due Diligence and Financial Analysis
– Conduct comprehensive due diligence on prospective portfolio companies, evaluating early-stage ventures, analyzing financial projections, burn rates, revenue models, and capital requirements, and presenting findings to the investment committee.
Portfolio Company Financial Health Monitoring and Advisory
– Maintain visibility into portfolio company performance, track burn rates and runway, provide financial guidance and corrective actions, and ensure compliance with covenants.
Financial Reporting, Forecasting, and Internal Analytics
– Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual forecasts, reports, and analyses for leadership and board; develop analytical tools; verify funding sources; maintain a centralized financial database.
Operational and Administrative Responsibilities
– Manage project and grant budgets, track grant expenditures, maintain accurate financial records, support audit process, attend meetings, and handle confidential information.
Special Projects and Strategic Initiatives
– Assist with forecasting, budgeting, regulatory reporting, cost savings initiatives, and financial training for staff.
Skills and Experience Direct experience in at least four of the following areas:
Analyzing early-stage or startup companies for investment potential
Conducting financial due diligence on venture capital or private equity investments
Managing or monitoring a portfolio of early-stage company investments
Forecasting cash flow, burn rate, and capital runway for growth-stage companies
Financial analysis and advisory in technology or manufacturing sectors
Building financial models for valuation, scenario analysis, or investment decisions
Working with early-stage founders or financial leaders to improve financial practices
Conducting financial audits or supporting audit processes for private companies
Required Skills and Competencies
Financial Analysis and Modeling
– Expert spreadsheet skills, GAAP knowledge, cash flow analysis, valuation methods.
Business Acumen
– Strong business orientation, strategic thinking, analytical skills.
Due Diligence and Risk Assessment
– Experience conducting due diligence on early-stage or growth companies.

Desired Experience and Background The ideal candidate will have direct experience working with venture capital, private equity, or early-stage startup investment environments, including manufacturing companies. Experience with term sheets, equity structures, and investment-stage financing is a plus.

Minimum Education & Experience Financial Specialist - Principal Professional: Bachelor’s Degree, 8+ years relevant experience. Financial Specialist - Senior Professional: Bachelor’s Degree, 6+ years relevant experience.
