Responsibilities
- Lead the Emerging Middle Market Group, managing Regional Managers and teams of Relationship Managers covering the Midwest region.
- Generate new client acquisition, targeting companies with $10MM – $50MM in revenue, and maintain strong relationships with customers, COIs, and key stakeholders.
- Drive overall growth in market share, leveraging existing client networks and direct new client acquisition.
- Recruit, develop, and coach the team around managing critical emerging middle market relationships, focusing on market share gain and client satisfaction.
- Ensure internal control standards, including audit, regulatory, and compliance policies.
- Develop and leverage strong relationships with Portfolio Management, Treasury Product Services, and other key commercial bank partners.
- Leverage the BMO OneClient focus across Wealth, Retail, Business Banking, and Diversified Industries Group.
- Act as an escalation point for complex client issues, using strategic problem‑solving to resolve conflicts and maintain strong client relationships.
- Lead structuring of high‑value, complex deals and credit approvals, ensuring alignment with client needs.
- Manage high‑value client portfolios, driving cross‑selling, retention, and profitability.
- Identify new business opportunities, acquire clients, penetrate markets, and expand the client base.
- Represent the bank at industry forums and conferences, providing insights on trends and competition.
- Advise in committees and task forces, providing strategic insights to drive key initiatives.
- Stream operational processes and implement best practices.
- Develop communication strategies to influence stakeholders and support organizational change.
- Oversee resource allocation for the team, ensuring effective use of personnel and budgets.
- Build and maintain strong long‑term relationships with high‑value and strategic clients.
- Analyze market trends, client industry developments, and competitive positioning.
- Work closely with internal teams to define products, solutions, and strategies that fit clients’ needs.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, internal controls, and compliance policies.
- Foster a culture aligned to BMO purpose, values, and strategy, and model BMO behaviours.
- Build interdependent teams that collaborate across functional and operating groups.
- Attract, retain, and enable the career development of top talent.
- Improve team performance, recognize and reward performance, coach employees, and manage poor performance.
- Operate at a group/enterprise‑wide level and serve as a senior specialist resource across BMO.
- Influence how teams and groups work together.
- Apply expertise and think creatively to address unique or ambiguous situations.
- Communicate abstract concepts in simple terms.
- Foster strong internal and external networks to achieve business objectives.
- Anticipate trends and respond by implementing appropriate changes.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in Relationship Management, Account Management, or Portfolio Management in a corporate or similar segmented banking environment with sales metrics.
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree and CPA certification preferred. Business Administration, Finance, and Accounting preferred; other related disciplines considered.
- Seasoned expertise with extensive industry knowledge.
- Technical leader viewed as a thought leader for innovation.
- Expert level proficiency in: Product Knowledge, Regulatory Compliance, Structuring Deals, Portfolio Management, Credit Risk Assessment, Project Management, Change Management, Customer Service, Stakeholder Management, Negotiation, Customer Relationship Building, and People Management.
Salary & Compensation
$164,400.00 – $285,600.00 (Salaried). The range reflects location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications. Compensation may include a commission structure, performance‑based incentives, discretionary bonuses, and other perks and rewards. See Benefits for more information.
