Overview
The Barnstormers at Johns Hopkins University are hiring a Music Director for their Spring 2026 production of FOOTLOOSE. The Music Director will work closely with student actors while teaching music and vocally preparing the cast for performances. The production will take place in the Bloomberg Student Center Theater, a brand-new, flexible seating space on the Johns Hopkins Homewood campus in Baltimore, MD.
Responsibilities
- Teach music and provide vocal coaching to the student cast.
- Work closely with actors during rehearsals.
- Assist with music preparation and rehearsal schedules.
- Participate in rehearsals as needed, though attendance at performances is optional.
Schedule & Logistics
- Six performances over two consecutive weekends: April 10‑12 and April 17‑19, 2026.
- Daily rehearsals: approximately 3 hours each weeknight (starting between 6 pm and 7 pm) and a longer rehearsal on the weekend with fewer student conflicts.
- Typical rehearsal schedule: six days a week, 3 hours each weeknight, longer weekend session.
- No rehearsals during the university‑wide Spring Break (March 16‑20, 2025).
- Director interviews: January 5‑9, 2026 via Zoom; candidates must be available for a 30‑minute session on one of those days.
- Auditions: February 6‑7, 2026; callbacks on February 8, 2026; rehearsals begin immediately after.
Compensation
Salary: $1,800 with up to a $500 stipend for travel expenses.
