Commercial Vehicle Inspection Specialist
California Highway Patrol – Conejo Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility (CVEF) – Ventura County

Responsibilities
Perform routine inspections on commercial vehicles to determine compliance with weight, size, registration, safety, and equipment requirements.
Inspect and test all types of commercial vehicle brake systems for compliance with the vehicle code and other applicable laws and regulations.
When required, refer violators to an enforcement officer for action.
Perform duties associated with North American Standard inspections (NAS), approximately 80% of the time.
Allocate roughly 20% of time to supporting NAS inspection activities such as answering phones/questions, cleaning inspection lanes, and assisting other staff members.
Work outdoors 50% or more of the work day.
Minimum Requirements
Jurisdiction-limited to the classification: COMMERCIAL VEHICLE INSPECTION SPECIALIST.

The position requires a drug screening, background investigation, and medical clearance prior to hiring.
Working Conditions Facility operational 18 hours a day, 5 days a week. CVIS assigned to one of three shifts, 5 days per week.

Individuals currently in the classification, eligible for lateral transfer, eligible for reinstatement, have LIST or LEAP eligibility, are in the process of obtaining LIST eligibility, or have SROA and/or Surplus eligibility (please attach your letter, if available).
SROA and Surplus candidates are given priority; therefore, individuals with other eligibility may be considered if no SROA or Surplus candidates apply.
Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s).
