Plan, administer, and promote the Town's Summer Camp program. Richmond Recreation Summer Camp is a five-week camp from 9 am to 3 pm, generally held at Richmond Elementary School. This year’s camp runs from June 29 – July 31.
The Camp Director works under the supervision of the Recreation Director.
In advance of camp:
Plan daily schedule and activities of camp
Review inventory of camp materials/equipment and make new purchase recommendations
Hire outside entertainers/performers
Interview and make recommendations regarding the hiring of counselors
Train camp staff
Coordinate with the Chariho School Department for use of facilities
Supervise “move-in” day to bring all equipment to the school
Summer camp:
Supervise and oversee all camper activities during camp
Ensure safety of campers
Supervise counselors and junior counselors
Ensure timely reporting of payroll to finance office
Communicate with parents with regard to weekly camp schedule and activities.
Communicate with parents regarding any issues at camp
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Development needs of youth
Safety best practices and emergency procedures
Effective supervisory and management principles and practices
Ability to create a team atmosphere amongst staff
Education and/or Experience
Must be at least 25 years of age with supervisory experience
College level coursework in elementary or secondary education is a plus
Previous experience working in a camp setting or teaching is preferred.
Must have current Red Cross or equivalent CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification prior to the start of camp (certification training will be provided upon hire if necessary)
Compensation
Stipend of $6,000 covers all work to include preparation, and the 5 weeks of camp, plus any additional follow-up as necessary.
