Save Job

Trueline is seeking an Environmental & Real Estate Counsel to join our Boston team. This is a specialized, "plug-and-play" professional track role designed for an experienced attorney seeking a sophisticated practice with a flexible, part-time schedule. You will work within a tight-knit group that delivers boutique-style development and high-level strategic counsel within a large-firm platform.

The Role & Structure

Unlike a traditional associate track, this position is a Professional Track (off-partner track) role.

  • Capacity: Approximately 50–60% FTE (roughly 975 – 1,170 billable hours annually).
  • Compensation: $175 – $200 per hour, with discretionary bonuses reviewed annually based on performance.
  • Focus: Providing high-level, independent support on complex environmental permitting, land use strategy, and real estate transactions.

What You’ll Do

  • Strategic Counsel: Provide expert guidance on Massachusetts environmental law, including permitting, land use/zoning, and environmental risk/liability in major real estate and business transactions.
  • Regulatory Oversight: Lead clients (developers, industrial/manufacturing entities, utilities, and energy providers) through regulatory compliance, agency enforcement, CERCLA, RCRA, and other state/federal matters.
  • Transactional Leadership: Support or lead real estate acquisitions, dispositions, leases, and development/construction agreements.
  • Collaborative Execution: Work directly with clients in a lean structure (typically a partner plus 2–3 associates), providing senior-level oversight and mentorship.

Must Haves

  • Experience: 10 to 20+ years of dedicated experience in environmental and real estate law.
  • Expertise: A "plug-and-play" skill set with a proven track record handling RCRA, CERCLA, enforcement actions, and complex MA permitting/land use frameworks.
  • Transactional Proficiency: Deep experience in real estate development, leasing, and acquisitions/dispositions.
  • Credentials: Juris Doctor and active admission to the Massachusetts Bar.

Nice to Haves

  • Portable Business: While not required for this part-time role, a portable book of business is welcomed if the candidate desires a higher volume of work.
  • Industry Depth: Experience representing clients in life sciences, tech, or infrastructure.
  • Background: Prior experience at an Am Law 200 or specialized boutique firm.

This Role Offers

  • Sophisticated Flexibility: The opportunity to work on high-stakes, global-platform matters with a manageable, part-time hourly commitment.
  • Mentorship: Serve as a senior resource and mentor within a respected litigation and transactional practice.
  • Culture: A deep value on collaboration and an inclusive environment aligned with managing complex legal challenges across life sciences, technology, and crisis management.
