Position Summary

The Finance Director provides vision, leadership, and oversight for all financial, budgeting, and accounting functions including leading a finance team of eight. This role is responsible for managing a $15M annual budget across a complex nonprofit accounting structure with multiple funding sources. The Finance Director serves as a key strategic partner to executive leadership and the Board, translating financial data for a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic oversight of all financial and accounting operations
  • Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes
  • Prepare and monitor monthly financial statements and reconciliations
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
  • Develop, implement, and revise financial policies and procedures
  • Lead annual agency-wide and program-specific audits
  • Oversee grant and contract financial reporting and negotiations
  • Maintain strong working relationships with auditors, funders, and the Board
  • Supervise, coach, and develop finance staff
  • Develop benchmarks, projections, and meaningful financial reports
  • Collaborate with executive leadership on long-term strategic planning

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or higher (required)
  • Minimum of 4 years of progressive nonprofit or government accounting experience (required)
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting and full-cycle bookkeeping
  • Experience with grant budgeting, reporting, and compliance
  • Proficiency with accounting systems and Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Ability to present complex financial data to non-financial audiences

  • Proven ability to lead and mentor finance teams with high ethical standards
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and process-improvement skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and recordkeeping abilities

Additional Requirements

  • TB test (provided by the organization)
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check

Compensation
