Job Title: Senior Estimator – HVAC & Plumbing

Locations: Portsmouth, NH & Boston, MA (Hybrid / Office-Based)
Compensation: $120,000–$160,000 base + bonus potential

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to support mid- to large-scale commercial HVAC and plumbing projects across New England. This role will be based between our Portsmouth, NH and Boston offices , partnering closely with preconstruction, project management, and operations to develop accurate, competitive estimates that drive profitable growth.

The ideal candidate brings deep mechanical estimating expertise, strong conceptual thinking, and the ability to lead complex bids from early design through final submission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for commercial HVAC and plumbing projects , including conceptual, schematic, design development, and hard-bid phases

  • Analyze drawings, specifications, and scope documents to identify labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor requirements

  • Lead estimating efforts on mid- to large-scale projects (healthcare, life sciences, higher education, commercial, industrial, etc.)

  • Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and vendor pricing

  • Develop value engineering options and cost-saving alternatives

  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and operations teams to ensure accurate scope alignment

  • Participate in bid reviews, risk assessments, and handoff meetings

  • Maintain estimating databases, assemblies, and historical cost data

  • Mentor junior estimators and support estimating best practices

  • Track bid outcomes and provide feedback for continuous improvement

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience estimating HVAC and plumbing systems in commercial or industrial construction

  • Proven success estimating projects in the $5M–$50M+ range

  • Strong understanding of mechanical and/or plumbing systems, materials, labor productivity, and installation methods

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills

  • Experience working with design-build and negotiated work preferred

  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple offices
