Recreation Aid (Lifeguard)

This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the Cadet Pool, Air Force Academy, Colorado. This position does not include benefits. Duties

Continuously observes swimming area to ensure safety of patrons. Ensures that the swimming area is open to patrons at the scheduled times and that authorized persons only are admitted to the area. Rescues swimmers in trouble, promptly administers first aid, and calls for medical assistance if and when needed. Warns swimmers of unsafe environmental or health conditions, ocean conditions of rough water or hazards, and recommends closing swimming areas until safe conditions prevail. When working at pools may operate water pumps and control chemical additives to ensure pool water meets specific standards. Ensures that diving boards are inspected frequently for cracks or loose matting, and that necessary repairs are made. May perform other related or incidental duties as assigned for the daily operation of the swimming area to include: cleaning of bath houses, wading pools, main pools, pool decks, sunbathing areas, etc. Performs other related duties as assigned. Requirements

This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results. This position requires the incumbent to be able to lift up to 50 pounds. This position requires the incumbent to complete a pre-employment physical. This position requires the incumbent to work an uncommon tour of duty. Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualifying Experience: For pool and aquatic center lifeguards: Must have an approved and current nationally recognized certification in lifesaving and water rescue methods and skills, as well as basic first aid training, and CPR (both child and adult) training. For coastal lifeguards: In addition to the above, must also have surf rescue techniques training. Experience which provides a practical knowledge of swimming activities, rules and procedures and skill in the use and maintenance of various pool and safety equipment is desirable. Satisfactory completion of installation records checks, state, and national criminal background checks. A Local Files Check (LFC) and a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) are required.
