Master's Design Build Group is a local, award-winning full-service design-build firm in Hatfield, PA. We are hiring a detail-oriented and skilled Lead Carpenter to join our fantastic team. The work involves leading and directing all on-site construction activities from the start of a project until the final walkthrough. Responsibilities
Read blueprints and sketches to fully grasp the requirements
Fabricate rafters, partitions, stairways, and window and door frames
Confirm flooring, roofing, and drywall are level and compatible
Calculate, shape, cut, and smooth materials
Conduct inspections, maintenance, and fix structures
Project Pre-Planning: Works with the Project Coordinator to debug the job and assist in preparing the Project Schedule based on the Estimate and Contract
Communications: Maintains open, daily communications with clients, trade partners, and the Design/Sales Department as needed, with daily updates/logs via our construction management platform
General Job Oversight and Construction: Manages and coordinates the overall daily dance of Trade Partners and In-House staff from start of the project to the finishing touches to maximize efficiency
Materials and Supplies: Diligently plans ahead and ensures that all necessary materials and supplies are ordered and delivered to the jobsite in advance of when they are needed
Carpentry: Performs and/or oversees all carpentry and other in-house work according to
Best Practices , delegating as necessary to other field staff to ensure that the project is moving forward according to schedule and that our
Quality Standards
are met
Project Financial Management: Proactively monitors and controls project costs with an awareness of the importance of accurate job costing
Teamwork: Fosters an enthusiastic, creative, "can-do" attitude, and embraces a teamwork mentality in partnership with the Sales and Estimating departments in pursuit of Company goals
Qualifications
A high school diploma or GED is preferred
Excellent physical condition and dexterity
Candidate must have successfully completed a carpentry apprenticeship
Proficient in carpentry tools, techniques, and materials
Valid driver’s license required
Passion for Excellence
Must have the heart of a lifelong learner with the desire to excel at our craft
At least 5 years of hands-on experience in a general contracting or custom building/remodeling company
Thorough understanding of construction principles, methods, and specifications both within the Company and the industry
Strong knowledge of and experience in all facets of carpentry, from rough to finish
Consistent pursuit of additional industry knowledge and Best Practices
Ability to understand design intent and be able, if necessary, to work through low levels of detail
Ability to read and interpret plans, details, and specifications, and can visualize in three dimensions from two-dimensional data
Forward-looking, able to anticipate problems and challenges well in advance, and the ability to solve those problems and deal effectively with variables in situations where limited standardization may exist
Strong general math skills (algebra and geometry) to facilitate calculation of necessary job equations: area, volume, angles, pitch, diameter, circumference, and square footage, etc.
Basic Computer literacy – competency in MS Word, Excel, Project, and industry-specific software for managing change orders, job cost, and related project commitments
Proactive, flexible, team player who is comfortable working in a small company environment, taking on a leadership role
Highly motivated, self-starter who is organized and efficient, with above-average time management skills
Good verbal and written communication skills
Physical abilities essential to the job include the ability to walk, talk, and hear
There are regular demands that physically require the employee to be able to lift and carry at least 80 pounds
The employee must be able to see and focus clearly both at a distance and close up
Employee will be subject to and must be able to work in the extremes of the outdoor environment in both summer and winter
Employee must be able to operate a motor vehicle to and from the job site
Compensation $50,000 - $70,000 per year
