Description

Surgo Health is a Public Benefit Corporation building the world’s most comprehensive and insightful AI-powered data platform that reveals the why behind people’s behaviors. We uncover the unseen drivers of health - people’s beliefs, barriers, and behaviors - and transform that intelligence into scalable products that enable healthcare organizations to drive impact, reduce costs, and advance inclusion. From improving clinical trial design to optimizing care delivery and public health strategies, our solutions help decision-makers act on what truly shapes health outcomes. By revealing the human side of healthcare, we’re making it more personal, precise, and effective - for everyone.

We are hiring a Senior Director to build and lead our mental and women’s health portfolio including the US Youth Mental Health Tracker, the US Women’s Health Taskforce, a new UK mental health initiative, and new programs. This is a new leadership role with significant ownership: you will set portfolio strategy, lead delivery and partnerships, inform data/AI product direction, and grow a high-performing interdisciplinary team.

You will be accountable for turning Surgo’s behavioral data and AI-driven insights into decision-grade products and partner outcomes - informing philanthropic strategy, shaping policy, guiding program design, delivering value to companies in the sector, and ultimately improving health outcomes.

Set portfolio strategy & roadmap

  • Define the vision, priorities, and roadmap for Surgo’s mental and women’s health work, aligning research, product development, partnerships, and impact goals.
  • Translate behavioral data and AI capabilities into a clear set of offerings (products, analyses, and partner engagements) that solve specific decision problems.

Lead partner outcomes (delivery) and generate visibility

  • Oversee end-to-end delivery across a portfolio of initiatives; continuously assess what to scale, refine, sunset, or spin up.
  • Ensure work produces rigorous insights and clear recommendations that influence policy, funding, and practice.
  • Guide and oversee a marketing strategy that establishes our public goods and products as leaders in the ecosystem.
  • Create visibility for the projects through conference presentations, publications, and other external engagements on mental and maternal health.

Build products & drive adoption

  • Partner with Surgo’s product/data leaders to shape and evolve Surgo’s mental/women’s health data assets and AI tools based on real partner needs.
  • Represent Surgo in external thought leadership and convenings.

Grow the portfolio

  • Identify, shape, and pursue new opportunities across sectors; lead concept notes and proposals that clearly articulate Surgo’s value.
  • Build trusted relationships with clients, policymakers, advocates, and community organizations.

Lead and grow the team

  • Hire, mentor, and manage an interdisciplinary team (behavioral science, data science, policy, program management), setting a high bar for quality and pace.

About you

  • 10–15+ years experience spanning healthcare/public health, mental/maternal health, philanthropy, government, or social impact consulting.
  • Proven ability to lead complex, ambiguous work from problem definition through delivery and adoption.
  • Strong “insights → decisions” track record: your work has shaped funding allocations, policy, strategy, program design, or client strategies.
  • Comfort operating at the intersection of data, product, and partner needs; able to translate technical findings into executive‑ready narratives.
  • Excellent client/partner leadership skills (trusted advisor, negotiation, coalition‑building).
  • People leadership: experience building and managing high‑performing teams.
  • Bachelor’s required; advanced degree preferred (MPH/MPP/MBA/PhD/MD or similar).
  • Candidates from strategy/social impact consulting are encouraged to apply.

Location & Travel

  • Location: Washington, DC (in office 2 days/week)
  • Travel: Some domestic and occasional international travel expected (e.g., partner meetings, field visits, conferences)
