Sales Engineer – Service & Retrofit Projects
Location: Orange County, CA
Position Overview An established Mechanical Construction organization is seeking a Sales Engineer to support and grow its service and retrofit project pipeline. This role focuses on developing opportunities through both existing client relationships and new business development, with an emphasis on technical solutions for commercial facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Drive service-related project opportunities including repairs, equipment replacements, system upgrades, retrofits, and tenant improvement work
Identify, pursue, and develop new business while expanding relationships with existing customers
Leverage technical knowledge of commercial HVAC systems to align client challenges with effective solutions
Engage decision-makers to understand operational needs, budgets, and project objectives
Prepare and deliver professional presentations that clearly articulate solution value and differentiation
Coordinate and compile project documentation for seamless handoff to operations and project delivery teams
Qualifications & Experience
Proven experience in a Sales Engineer or technical sales role within the commercial HVAC or building systems market
Demonstrated success selling complex, solution-based offerings
Strong ability to build and maintain trusted relationships with owners, executives, and key stakeholders
Skilled at translating technical concepts into clear, client-friendly messaging
Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
Solid mechanical or technical foundation with the ability to quickly learn engineering concepts
Customer-focused mindset with a consultative sales approach
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a technical discipline, or equivalent trade school education
Minimum of 5 years of hands‑on knowledge working with commercial HVAC systems
Experience leading or coordinating with manufacturer reps, consulting engineers, and contractors
Understanding of commercial sales cycles and project-based selling
Familiarity with building automation, controls, and DDC systems
Compensation
Base salary range: $90,000–$120,000
Additional incentives include Commission and Profit-Sharing
