Department Profile The newly created Morgan Stanley Institute aims to deliver the Firm’s most differentiated and insightful thought leadership to its clients across Institutional Securities, Investment Management and Wealth Management. The Institute’s Editorial Director will join the Integrated Firm division and report to the Institute Directors.

Position Description We are seeking a writer with demonstrated financial journalism experience—or— a current markets practitioner (sales, trading, investment analysis) possessing strong creative and writing skills who is seeking to transition to a content/research focused role.

The person in this role will be a primary point person in helping shape and amplify the Institute’s voice through the development of compelling content and client engagement opportunities. Day‑to‑day work will involve strategic planning with Institute directors, sourcing content from divisional thought leaders, applying a set content style/voice, keeping the editorial calendar and liaising with firm‑wide marketing and high‑profile stakeholders across the firm.

The candidate should also be a passionate, big‑ideas person with a firm grasp of the financial industry and enjoys finding narrative‑driven ways of explaining complex themes.

Primary Responsibilities

Set editorial calendar in collaboration with the Institute Directors

Collaborate with content creators across the Firm to identify key thought leadership topics and data sources

Develop and implement Institute editorial guidance to ensure consistency of tone and voice

Edit and ghost‑write some sourced content

Develop and ghost‑write scripts for multimedia platforms

Work closely with Firm‑wide Marketing to deliver the Institute’s product through various channels (web, social media and newsletters)

Develop innovative avenues and formats (such as interactives) to showcase the work of the Institute

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required. Emphasis on business, finance, economics or journalism is preferred but not essential.

8+ years of experience in financial journalism or as a markets practitioner

A portfolio or links to writing samples

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Deep interest in economics, financial markets and investing

Experience in developing creative communications, planning events and/or implementing a content strategy

Detail‑oriented with excellent business writing, communications and presentation skills

Comfortable managing multiple priorities with strong organizational and time‑management skills

Able to thrive in a high‑performance environment with tight deadlines

A self‑starter with persistence, tenacity and a drive for results

Can thrive in a team‑based environment with multiple stakeholders

Comfortable working in a large organization and interfacing with a broad set of stakeholders across various functions

Benefits & Compensation Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $165,000 and $275,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long‑term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley‑sponsored benefit programs.
