The Role We’re seeking a Freelance Digital Designer with strong expertise in Shopify and DTC e-commerce UX/UI design. This is a freelance, project-based role (not full-time). You’ll collaborate closely with our team to design and strategize e-commerce experiences, expand digital style guides, and apply UX best practices across all deliverables. The ideal candidate creates engaging, brand-forward, and high-converting e-commerce experiences grounded in DTC and UX best practices. At Barrel, design is both strategic and creative—our designers help shape intuitive user experiences through wireframes, user flows, and thoughtful design systems. Key Responsibilities Concept and design engaging e-commerce experiences for Shopify DTC brands Create key UX deliverables including strategy decks, sitemaps, and wireframes Translate briefs into high-quality, functional designs aligned with client goals and audiences Lead or support client meetings and workshops when needed Advise clients on e-commerce and UX best practices Collaborate with creative, development, and project management teams throughout the process Create detailed annotations and responsive designs for handoff Build and maintain comprehensive Figma style guides and component libraries Qualifications 4+ years of agency or freelance experience in digital design Experience with CPG brands (food & beverage, skincare & beauty, supplements) Experience with Shopify Themes is a plus Proficient in Figma (including prototyping and component systems) Deep understanding of UX/UI best practices for e-commerce Strong communication skills and ability to clearly present design decisions Self-managed and proactive, with strong organization and attention to detail Comfortable working asynchronously in a remote-first environment Remote Work Role: Account Manager
Overview Barrel is seeking an Account Manager (AM) to act as the connector between clients and the team, managing day-to-day relationships and ensuring projects stay on track. The AM will stay on top of communications, schedule meetings, prepare agendas, write recaps, and document next steps. Over time, you will grow into leading more strategic conversations about website optimization, e-commerce best practices, and long-term planning. Key Responsibilities Serve as the day-to-day point of contact for assigned clients; respond quickly to emails and Basecamp messages Schedule and run client meetings, prepare agendas, take notes, and send recaps with next steps Ensure information flows between clients and internal teams; capture feedback, assign tasks, track deliverables Support new client onboarding by setting clear expectations and aligning on Barrel’s processes Draft briefs, collect assets, and document client feedback for the team Collaborate with Project Managers to keep projects on track and on budget Build strong client relationships and foster trust through responsiveness and clarity Monitor project health and timelines; proactively communicate risks or changes Learn and apply Barrel’s e-commerce strategies; contribute insights to improve client websites and retention Skills & Experience Organization and detail orientation; capable of managing multiple priorities Strong written and verbal communication; able to lead client conversations Working knowledge of Shopify; understanding of platform operations (coding not required) Ownership mindset; proactive problem-solving Strategic curiosity; interest in e-commerce trends and tactics Collaboration across design, development, and strategy teams Adaptability; able to juggle multiple accounts remotely Experience with Google Suite, Slack, Basecamp, Jira, Harvest, Forecast Experience 2 to 4 years in e-commerce, SaaS, or agency environments Prior role in account management, client success, or client-facing e-commerce/planning preferred Agency experience is a plus Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, or related field Compensation Salary range for this fully remote position is $70k to $85k, depending on experience and location. This is a remote-first role, you may work from anywhere in the U.S. The Tech Lead is responsible for technical project success and works closely with project teams to ensure solutions are delivered on time and under budget. Key Responsibilities Research and evaluate software options; weigh cost/benefit of third-party platforms Assist with level-of-effort estimates and scoping Communicate technical solutions clearly with clients Ensure correct technology processes are followed Contribute to best practices and company knowledge sharing Present simple solutions for complex problems Lead and oversee developers; provide technical guidance Hands-on code review and collaboration to support project teams Provide perspective on technical approach; prototyping as needed Estimate and plan tech strategy with leadership; address red flags in pre-sales Manage project delivery and document requirements; communicate gaps Be an articulate voice in client discussions; build trust Address bugs/QA issues and adapt to changes Run scrums or scrum-like processes with PMs Experience & Skills Frontend and backend development experience; HTML, CSS, JS, LIQUID; LAMP, MERN, JAM Proficiency with project management tools (Google Suite, Slack, Basecamp, JIRA, Harvest, Forecast) Ability to simplify complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences Shopify ecosystem knowledge; translate to actionable strategies Strong communication, leadership, and time-management skills Experience designing for omnichannel including Amazon A+ Creative, email, social, campaigns Education: 4+ years (Bachelor’s or higher) in Engineering/CS or related; 5+ years of software engineering; 2+ years in design/digital agency
