
Outside Sales Representative

Job Summary The Outside Sales Representative is responsible for generating new business, driving revenue growth and expanding relationships with commercial construction companies, general contractors, and industrial clients. This role focuses on prospecting, qualifying leads, and closing sales, with regular face‑to‑face interactions and travel to customer sites and job locations, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction and loyalty.
This position is expected to regularly attend various trade shows and construction/manufacturing events, to represent the company and generate new sales leads and revenue opportunities.
Success in this role requires a strategic approach to territory management, identifying new business prospects, and effectively communicating the value proposition of the company’s products. The ideal candidate is driven, self‑motivated, and experienced in solution‑based B2B selling within the construction or building materials industry.
Responsibilities
Identify, prospect, and develop new business opportunities within the target end markets
Schedule and conduct in‑person meetings with prospective and current customers
Maintain regular communication with existing customers to ensure satisfaction and uncover additional needs
Collaborate with inside sales and customer service to ensure accurate order fulfillment and strong customer relationships
Prepare quotes, proposals, and follow‑ups to close new business opportunities
Maintain an active pipeline and track progress in CRM software
Visit customer job sites and offices monthly (or as needed) to strengthen relationships and assess project status
Attend trade shows, networking events, and industry functions to promote brand awareness
Monitor competitor activity, market trends, and customer feedback to recommend strategic adjustments
Minimum Qualifications
3–5 years of experience in outside sales, preferably in construction supplies, fencing, or building materials and/or manufacturing
Proven track record of developing new business and meeting sales targets
Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
Highly organized with strong follow‑up and time‑management abilities
Proficiency in CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot) and Microsoft Office
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regionally (≈ 50 %)
Industry experience in e‑commerce or retail is strongly preferred; B2C and B2B experience is helpful
Excellent communication and synthesis skills; able to move from data to insight to recommendation
Skills Strong communication and interpersonal skills enable the representative to build trust and rapport with diverse customers. Negotiation skills are used daily to close deals that benefit both the client and the company. Proficiency with CRM tools helps in organizing customer information, tracking sales activities, and forecasting revenue accurately. Analytical skills allow the representative to interpret market data and adjust sales strategies to capitalize on emerging opportunities.
Compensation Package $80‑$90K/Year
Bonus structure (up to 50 % based on target goals being met)
