Position Summary:
The Maker Mentor II delivers formal training sessions, provides advanced technical instruction, and serves as an independent mentor to users of the NJIT Makerspace. Building on prior experience, this position supervises users working in the facility, ensuring safe operation and adherence to established procedures. Maker Mentor II staff independently develop and refine instructional materials, lead advanced training workshops, and assist in improving facility operations. They guide users on complex academic, research, and extracurricular projects, helping translate ideas into high-quality, manufacturable outcomes. The Maker Mentor II must demonstrate strong technical proficiency, effective communication, and the ability to manage and coordinate activities across multiple disciplines. This role contributes to fostering a professional, safe, and collaborative Makerspace environment that reflects NJIT’s commitment to experiential learning and innovation.
Essential Functions
Deliver and develop advanced formal training sessions and workshops.
Supervise and mentor users across multiple fabrication and design disciplines.
Maintain, calibrate, and improve specialized fabrication systems.
Provide advanced project guidance and consultation across academic and research initiatives.
Enforce safety standards and assist with policy implementation.
Prerequisite Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, industrial design, or a related field.
2–4 years of professional or instructional experience in fabrication, design, or technical education.
Skilled in advanced fabrication systems such as CNC, electronics, or CAD/CAM.
At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
Salary Information In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the hourly rate/range for this position is $45.00 (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
