Staff Position Summary
The Maker Mentor I provides instructional and technicalsupport to users of the NJIT Makerspace through hands-on training, supervision,and fabrication assistance. This position plays a foundational role in ensuringthat users learn to safely and effectively operate Makerspace equipment,including 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC machines, and basic shop tools. MakerMentor I employees deliver formal training sessions, supervise users duringopen lab hours, assist in developing instructional materials, and help maintainequipment and workspaces. They support students, faculty, and staff intransforming design concepts into physical prototypes while upholding thehighest standards of safety and professionalism. This role emphasizes skilldevelopment, collaboration, and continuous learning as part of a technicaleducation environment that encourages innovation and creativity. Essential Functions
Deliver formal training sessions and assist in developinginstructional materials. Supervise users during lab hours to ensure safe andeffective equipment operation. Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot basic fabrication andprototyping tools. Support students, faculty, and staff in design andfabrication projects. Enforce safety standards and assist with policyimplementation. Prerequisite Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology,industrial design, or a related field. 0–2 years of relevant hands-on or instructionalexperience. Proficiency in basic fabrication tools and digital designworkflows. At the university\'s discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position. Salary Information
In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the hourly rate for this position is $35.00 (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items. FLSA
