Overview

The purpose of this classification is to coordinate and oversee Therapeutic Recreation summer camp programming for children and teenagers with disabilities and special needs. This position ensures programs are safe, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate, assists in managing overall camp operations under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor/Coordinator, and provides leadership, supervision, and support for camp counseling staff. Responsibilities

Assists in training of camp counselors on participant support, inclusion, and safety procedures. Supervises camp counselors; assigns groups, duties, coverage, and support roles. Plans and implements daily camp schedule with attention to routines, transitions, and sensory needs. Implements inclusive, adaptive activities appropriate for varied abilities and support levels. Selects equipment and supplies; maintains and organizes adaptive and program materials. Prepares facilities and equipment; ensures spaces are safe, accessible, and calming when needed. Supports participant success using behavior-support strategies, clear expectations, and positive reinforcement. Provides participant supervision and assistance during activities, transitions, toileting/personal care, and meals as required. Maintains clear communication with parents/caregivers and camp leadership regarding participant needs and concerns. Completes and maintains attendance, participant information, incident/injury reports, behavior documentation, and sign-in/sign-out logs. Administers medications per program procedures and required documentation. Administers First Aid and reports injuries/accidents/illnesses to Therapeutic Recreation Supervisor/Coordinator. Attends field trips and staff meetings as needed; ensures appropriate staffing, support, and safety plans. Drives county vehicles for camp transportation when assigned and ensures safe loading/unloading and supervision. Reports facility issues, equipment concerns, and supply needs to Therapeutic Recreation Supervisor/Coordinator. Provides performance feedback to camp counselors and elevates disciplinary concerns to Therapeutic Recreation Supervisor/Coordinator. Qualifications

Age 21 is preferred, but age 20 is the minimum requirement. Two or more years of responsible experience working with youth in a camp, educational or program setting is required. Must possess organizational skills; be enthusiastic, adaptable, dependable and responsible. Must be able to work outdoors and participate in active games and programming. Must possess a valid Georgia driver’s license and able to attend CPR training prior to summer camp.
