Position Summary: This position promotes Oxford as a destination for sporting events and athletic tourism by building relationships with athletic organizations, facilities, and event rights holders. The Sports Marketing Manager drives economic impact through the recruitment, retention, and support of sports-related events while aligning with the overall tourism strategy of Visit Oxford.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Strong understanding of the sports tourism industry and event planning processes
Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
Well-organized and detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple projects
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Marketing, Business, or related field (preferred)
Minimum 2–3 years of relevant experience in sports marketing, event coordination, or tourism
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with CRM/database platforms (e.g., IDSS) preferred
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds
Required to stand or walk for long periods during events
Ability to sit at a desk for extended periods and work on a computer
Manual dexterity required for office tasks
Work Environment
60% of work is indoors in a climate-controlled office environment. 40% of work may be conducted outdoors at event sites or venues in temperatures ranging from 30°F to 100°F.

Primary Responsibilities Sports Sales & Development
Position Oxford as a competitive destination for tournaments, races, and athletic events
Identify and engage event rights holders, tournament organizers, and athletic associations to secure bookings
Develop and maintain a pipeline of sports leads through sales calls, direct outreach, networking, and industry events
Maintain updated database of area sports related facilities and amenities in Sports Tourism Index/Scout
Event Servicing & Client Management
Serve as the liaison between event organizers, athletic venues, city departments, and lodging partners
Coordinate pre-event planning meetings and site visits; manage post-event evaluations
Maintain up-to-date records of leads, contacts, and event details in CRM system
Marketing & Promotion
Work with Director of Sales & Marketing and PR agency to promote secured events and Oxford's sports assets
Create and distribute sports-specific collateral, presentations, and digital marketing content
Community & Partner Collaboration
Collaborate with local schools, universities, and sports organizations to identify partnership opportunities
Coordinate with Partnerships Manager to ensure local stakeholders are involved in event planning and execution
Secondary Duties
Assist with general tourism office operations and front desk coverage as needed
Support tourism-related events and festivals, including Double Decker Festival
Support Holly Jolly Holiday as needed
