Location and Position We currently have an exciting opportunity in our Welding department. This position specifically is located in Norfolk, Virginia. We are looking for

2 Outside Machinist to work 1st shift.

Shift and Clearance Shift:

ALL

Security Clearance:

No Clearance

Education Requirements Typically has a High School diploma or equivalent plus relevant work experience as noted below:

Outside Machinist Progression Outside Machinist J4

Minimum of 5 (five) years directly related experience in a Shipyard Environment.

Must meet all Journeyman 3 Outside Machinist requirements.

Must be able to furnish sizes and clearance and also recommendations to supervisor.

Able to read and use tech manuals and blueprints and specification items.

Outside Machinist J3

Minimum of 4 (four) years directly related experience in a Shipyard Environment.

Must meet all Journeyman 2 Outside Machinist requirements.

Able to read and use tech manuals and blueprints and specification items.

Able to use and understand precision measuring instruments.

Outside Machinist J2

Minimum of 3 (three) years directly related experience in a Shipyard Environment.

Must meet all Journeyman 1 Outside Machinist requirements.

Outside Machinist J1

Minimum of 2 (two) years directly related experience in a Shipyard Environment.

Must be able to work on any equipment shown below with close supervision.

Essential Functions/Duties (All Journeymen Levels)

Experienced in machinery overhaul and installation and testing of all the following:

Winches (Electric driven* Electro hydraulic)

Anchor windlasses

Steering gear

Air compressors

Pump and motor alignments

Valve repairs

Diesel engine repairs

Hydraulic trouble shooting * repairs

Reduction gear repairs

Generator repairs

Boat davit repairs

Bearing fit-up & installation

Gas turbine repairs

Louvers

Aircraft Elevators

Underwater Hull Strainer Plates

Cranes

Brakes

Resilient Mounts

Emitter Belts

OD Box Removal/Install

Sliding Pad Eyes

Rast Track

Propulsion experience of the following:

Shafting repairs and alignment, fixed and controllable pitch

Propellers removed and installed

Rudders repair and installed

Tool requirements:

Operate grinder fixed and portable

Operate drill presses fixed and portable

Fixed presses

Porta powers

Hydraulic jacks

Torches and torque wrenches

Assorted sizes of combination wrenches

socket sets

slip joint pliers

adjustable wrenches,

wire pliers,

hammers-ball pean, flat head, small mall

screw drivers (flat and phillips)

vise grips,

6” scale- 12’ tape measure

snap ring pliers.

Micrometers, dial indicators, calipers,

pipe wrench,

punch set and chisels

Other tools as identified and determined as needed.

Visual Requirements: The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operating machines where the seeing job is at or within arm’s reach or performing mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as ones by electricians, technicians, service people, painters, mechanics, etc.

Must be able to climb on and around ships and walk to other yard areas and requires extended periods of standing and walking (75%). Inspections and work may require climbing ladders, working at heights, walking on scaffolding and observing co-workers using tools and equipment. Lifting/carrying tools and parts weighing up to 50 lbs. on frequent basis. Standing, bending, sitting, reaching, pushing, pulling, crouching, kneeling, handling, finger dexterity, feeling, eye/hand/foot coordination, seeing, hearing required. Selecting appropriate tools for jobs, as per trade classification. Works in tight, confined work spaces on board ship and is exposed to varied temperatures, wind, wet and humid conditions, fumes, odors and dust, vibrations from ship and hand tools.

Working Relationships This position reports to Shop Foreman/General Foreman and/or works with Crew Lead. This position develops and maintains a positive working relationship with other Machinists and supports a team approach in the pursuit of common company goals.

Principal Responsibilities

Assures that a Work Authorization Form (WAF) ticket is on the job site and that it is for the specific job being accomplished, no work will be accomplished without a WAF posted at location of repairs.

Assures that any other safety issues are complied with that relate to the specific job being accomplished (Example: special staging, face shields for grinding, protective clothing for hot work related jobs, breathing apparatus with correct cartridges, etc).

Assures that you are trained or qualified for the work you are assigned to do (Example: JLG, forklift, welding, brazing, special electrical/mechanical repairs and etc.).

Assures that personnel are working as safely and as productively as possible maintaining quality control at all times.

Assures that a 30 minute cool down period has been accomplished in hot work areas.

Assures that the job site is left in a safe and clean condition prior to departure.

Complete repairs or installation(s) as assigned with no supervision.

Accountability Responsible for effective, efficient and safe accomplishment of all assigned tasks. Accountable to Foreman/General Foreman and customer for Safety, Quality, Cost and Schedule.

Unique/Additional Requirements Occasional weekend work and / or extended hours. May require up to 30% travel.
