Overview
Poppy Hills Golf Course was originally built in 1986 and renovated in 2014. It was the first course in the United States to be owned and operated by an amateur golf association, currently serving as the headquarters and tournament home of the NCGA. The course combines design, conditioning, hospitality, and landscape, with views of Monterey Bay and opportunities to observe local wildlife in the Del Monte Forest. The Player Ambassador & Starter position is expected to inform guests of on-course expectations while playing Poppy Hills to improve their overall experience. This role fosters a welcoming atmosphere, shares pertinent daily information, encourages maintenance practices, and maintains punctual start times and pace of play. The position will be assigned Starter responsibilities on the 1st or 10th tee as needed and/or Player Ambassador responsibilities on the golf course as needed for the operation. Duties And Responsibilities
Provide friendly, welcoming and professional first interaction with all players. Welcome all players to the facility and introduce yourself as the Player Ambassador or Starter. Run the starting tee efficiently, ensuring players receive all pertinent information for the day and pace of play. Offer course information, guidance, and policies prior to players teed off. Monitor pace of play and maintain a positive tone that emphasizes service as a Player Ambassador. Help all groups finish play in a timely manner while enhancing the player experience. Offer on-course assistance to players as needed (e.g., forecaddie, raking bunkers, spotting balls) to help maintain pace and enjoyment. Maintain continuous contact with the golf professional staff regarding pace conditions, group interaction, and any other issues. Promote an operation that is run in a safe and secure manner. Other duties as assigned, including special projects. Requirements
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Fundamental knowledge of the game of golf, rules of golf, golf facility operations and tournament operations Good communication skills both verbally and in writing Ability to communicate in the English language Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work with people from a diverse range of backgrounds Ability to apply common sense understanding to complete instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions Work Schedule
Individual shifts will vary, but standard hours begin one (1) hour before the first tee time and shifts end as late as the final tee time of the day Must be able and willing to work one (1) closing Player Ambassador shift every two (2) week period Compensation And Benefits
This is a full-time, Non-Exempt position, with a starting salary of $16.90 per hour. Some clothing will be provided, with the employee expected to source and maintain a high standard of attire at all times. Participation in the company’s 401k plan after thirty days of employment. Sick leave, holidays, meals, and golf benefits also included.
