
Overview
The Senior Communications & Public Involvement Coordinator provides strategic leadership and execution for public involvement, stakeholder engagement, and communications efforts supporting infrastructure and environmental projects. This role manages multiple projects simultaneously, advises clients on NEPA-compliant engagement and Environmental Justice requirements, and leads the development and delivery of public-facing communications and engagement activities.
Key Responsibilities Project & Client Management
Manage multiple communications and public involvement projects concurrently, including scope, schedule, budget, and invoicing.
Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, providing strategic guidance on communications, public engagement, and compliance requirements.
Lead messaging development and oversee production of communications materials and public involvement deliverables.
Coordinate internal teams and external vendors to ensure timely, high-quality project delivery.
Public Involvement & Engagement
Develop and implement NEPA-compliant Public Involvement Plans and Community Engagement & Communications Plans.
Plan, coordinate, and lead in-person and virtual public meetings, stakeholder workshops, and engagement events.
Oversee preparation of public involvement documentation, summaries, and reports.
Support stakeholder facilitation and community outreach efforts.
Communications & Media
Lead media strategy development, including message framing, issue identification, and response planning.
Support media relations and crisis communications in coordination with senior advisors.
Write, edit, and review a wide range of communications materials, including:
Public notices, fact sheets, and brochures
Website and presentation content
Social media and digital content
Media releases and agency correspondence
Leadership & Quality Control
Provide quality assurance and quality control for all project communications materials.
Mentor and support junior staff, providing guidance on writing, engagement strategies, and professional development.
Business Development Support
Support proposal development, interviews, and marketing efforts.
Contribute to development of RFIs, RFPs, and RFQs as needed.
Qualifications Required
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, or a related field.
7+ years of professional experience in communications, public involvement, or stakeholder engagement.
Strong knowledge of NEPA-compliant public involvement and Environmental Justice/Justice40 principles.
Demonstrated experience managing projects, budgets, and client relationships.
Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
Preferred
Experience supporting infrastructure, transportation, or environmental projects.
Experience planning large-scale public meetings and stakeholder workshops.
