Overview The Finance Director is responsible for building and executing a comprehensive fundraising strategy for a Bay Area political campaign. This role oversees all aspects of campaign finance, including donor recruitment and stewardship, event fundraising, compliance coordination, and financial tracking. The Finance Director works closely with the Campaign Manager, Candidate, consultants, and volunteers to ensure the campaign meets or exceeds its fundraising goals while adhering to all applicable state and local regulations.

Key Responsibilities Fundraising Strategy & Management

Develop and implement a detailed finance plan with clear benchmarks and timelines.

Set and track weekly, monthly, and overall fundraising goals.

Manage call time programs for the candidate and senior campaign staff.

Identify, research, and cultivate new donor prospects, with an emphasis on Bay Area donor networks.

Maintain and grow relationships with high-dollar donors, PACs, and community stakeholders.

Events & Grassroots Fundraising

Plan, staff, and execute fundraising events ranging from small donor gatherings to large-scale receptions.

Coordinate host committees, invitations, follow-up, and donor tracking for events.

Support grassroots and online fundraising efforts, including email and digital campaigns.

Compliance & Financial Operations

Work closely with compliance vendors and/or treasurer to ensure adherence to California FPPC and local campaign finance laws.

Oversee contribution tracking, reporting deadlines, and donor data accuracy.

Monitor campaign budget in coordination with the Campaign Manager.

Team & Stakeholder Coordination

Supervise finance staff, consultants, and finance committee members as applicable.

Prepare regular fundraising reports for campaign leadership.

Serve as a key advisor to the candidate on donor strategy and messaging.

Qualifications

Prior experience as a Finance Director or Deputy Finance Director on a political campaign, preferably in California or the Bay Area.

Demonstrated success meeting or exceeding fundraising goals.

Strong understanding of California and local campaign finance regulations (FPPC compliance).

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.

Comfortable working evenings and weekends as required by campaign schedules.

Preferred Skills & Experience

Experience with donor databases (e.g., NGP VAN, NationBuilder, or similar).

Established relationships within Bay Area political, labor, advocacy, or donor communities.

Ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment.

Compensation $60,000 - 150,000 annual
