Pomona College - one of the nation’s premier liberal arts institutions—is seeking an Associate Director of Stewardship to play a visible and meaningful role in how philanthropic impact is stewarded, communicated, and experienced. Reporting to the Director of Stewardship, this role offers significant ownership, cross-campus collaboration, and leadership exposure, making it an ideal next step for an experienced stewardship or advancement professional ready to deepen your impact and grow your leadership skills. Pomona is in an exciting moment. The College is in a major campaign phase, has had record-breaking fundraising years, and is ahead of pace. This role is part of ensuring that momentum is matched with strong, sustainable stewardship and fund administration practices.
The Role
The Associate Director of Stewardship ensures that donor intent is honored and that philanthropic investments are stewarded with accuracy, transparency, and care. This individual serves as a central connector—working closely with advancement colleagues, finance, investments, fund administrators, and campus partners to manage gift funds, oversee reporting and audits, and translate outcomes into meaningful donor experiences. Beyond technical stewardship, this role is about building trust—with donors, internal stakeholders, and students - through clear communication, strong systems, and thoughtful engagement strategies. This position also supervises a Stewardship Coordinator, offering hands-on people leadership experience for candidates looking to expand their management capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the stewardship lifecycle for endowed and current-use funds, including fund setup, reconciliation, audits, and reporting
Oversee annual endowment and impact reporting, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and compelling storytelling
Partner with advancement, finance, and academic departments to ensure shared understanding of gift terms and fund usage
Serve as a primary liaison for fund administrators and internal stakeholders regarding stewardship expectations
Manage and improve stewardship processes, documentation, and systems across multiple platforms
Plan and execute stewardship projects and campaigns, including donor communications and impact initiatives
Collaborate on high-profile stewardship events that connect donors with students and programs
Supervise, coach, and mentor a Stewardship Coordinator, supporting professional growth and performance
Research best practices and recommend enhancements to strengthen stewardship effectiveness and donor confidence
The Ideal Candidate
Pomona College is open to candidates who bring strong stewardship foundations and are ready to step into broader responsibility.
Experience in fund administration, donor relations, stewardship, or gift management within higher education or a mission-driven nonprofit
A demonstrated commitment to transparency, accountability, and donor trust
Strong analytical and organizational skills, with comfort managing complex data and systems
Clear, confident communication skills and the ability to build productive relationships across diverse stakeholders
Curiosity, learning orientation, and openness to feedback and mentorship
Interest in developing or expanding people leadership experience
A bachelor’s degree is preferred, and experience within advancement or a related field in higher education is strongly valued.
Compensation & Total Rewards
Pomona College recognizes that compensation is more than salary alone. While the salary range for this role is $80,000–$90,000, the College offers a robust total rewards package that significantly enhances overall value, including:

Travel may be required. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College or division. This position is eligible for a hybrid remote work schedule requiring 3 days onsite.
