The Senior Producer, Weekends is responsible for weekend news content across all channels, including radio, digital, video, and social, that informs, includes, and inspires. As a crucial MPR News team leader, the Senior Producer assigns and coordinates breaking and planned news coverage and is a top-notch editor with an eye for accuracy, detail, and craft for our multichannel reporting and newscasts. Driving impactful reporting into Monday morning as audiences start their week up-to-date and prepared for what lies ahead is a must. Duties include working with other news team leaders to set short-term and long-term coverage agendas. You will guide the work of producers and reporters, as well as mentor interns and fellows as needed. This position sits in the collective bargaining agreement between MPR and Screen Actors Guild—American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA). Expected Compensation Range:
$83,640 - $100,368 USD annualized. Exact rate determined by experience and education related to the role, organizational compensation structure, and internal equity. Work Location:

Lead the weekend team of reporters, digital editors and newscasters Plan, assign and edit news stories, guide daily and breaking coverage across channels Contribute to setting coverage priorities with other news leaders Produce breaking news stories and create content for all channels as needed Initiate, coordinate, and implement specialized, focused special MPR News projects that serve the strategy and goals of serving and growing audience Serve as a leader within the MPR News organization, including with respect to working on external-focused and cross-divisional projects, collaborations with outside entities, and/or special events Duties as assigned Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent education or work experience 7 or more years of journalism experience, and at least 1 year of experience as an editor and/or 3 years of experience as a producer of a multiplatform program, episodic podcast, documentary, and/or investigative series Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Experience in maintaining high journalistic standards and performance, such as AP style, accuracy and fairness, under deadline pressure Understanding of digital newsgathering and operations, as well as strong digital writing skills Track record of strong decision-making and independent work Ability to work creatively, make interpretive judgments, and develop solutions Superior team leadership incorporating organizational, written and general communication skills Knowledge of broadcast (audio and video) and/or print journalism newsgathering practices Ability to assign and manage coverage of challenging news events Strong interest in engagement tools to increase audience reach Willingness to contribute to and participate in fostering a culture of equity and inclusion in support of company goals Preferred Skills and Experience:
Experience using WordPress, or similar content management systems Audio and/or video editing Data journalism training Knowledge of Spanish, Hmong, Somali, or another language used by large populations of Minnesotans Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
