Camp Simchah Director Position Overview
The Camp Simchah Director provides leadership, vision, and oversight for Camp Simchah. This role is responsible for planning, staffing, marketing, and executing a safe, engaging, and inclusive camp experience for campers, families, and staff. The Director works collaboratively with JCCNS leadership and staff to ensure camp excellence before, during, and after the summer season.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities Pre-Camp Planning & Preparation
Recruit and enroll campers in collaboration with the marketing team Assist in the creation of promotional and marketing materials Communicate regularly with prospective and returning campers and parents Recruit, interview, hire, and onboard Camp Simchah staff Prepare licensing documentation and coordinate site inspections Develop camper and staff schedules Create comprehensive parent and staff manuals Plan and lead staff orientation and training Collaborate with the Inclusion Director on camper groupings and support plans
Camp Operations
Serve as the primary point of contact for camper, parent, and staff communication Supervise, observe, and evaluate staff performance and program quality Continue camper recruitment and camp promotion throughout the summer Conduct formal staff evaluations at least once per season Produce and distribute weekly camp newsletters Plan and oversee special events and theme days Deliver daily camp announcements, recognizing birthdays, achievements, and milestones Lead staff meetings at least once per month, or more frequently as needed
Post-Camp Season Responsibilities
Organize camp facilities and supplies for off-season storage Work with JCCNS Marketing on post-camp surveys for families and staff Prepare a comprehensive end-of-summer report highlighting program successes, challenges, and recommendations Maintain communication with the camp community during the off-season Develop and submit the budget for the following summer
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills Strong written and verbal communication, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire and manage staff Experience working with children of all ages Ability to collaborate effectively with JCCNS staff, including other camp directors Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced, dynamic environment Positive attitude, friendly demeanor, and approachable leadership style
Salary
Salary Range
$15,000 to $18,000 for full time work during the camp season and immediately prior to camp as well as pre-camp planning and post-camp evaluation.
