Overview
We are seeking an experienced Tax Director to lead and oversee all tax functions for a sophisticated family investment office backed by permanent capital that invests across the capital structure — including private and public companies, technology, software, financial services and a diversified set of alternative assets. The Tax Director will be a strategic partner to senior leadership, supporting investment decision-making with best-in-class tax planning, compliance, risk mitigation and reporting. This role is ideal for a self-starter who enjoys working in a high-engagement, entrepreneurial environment with long-term investment horizons and complex structures.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Tax Planning & Investment Support
Develop and implement proactive tax strategies for the family office and its investment vehicles, aligned with long-term capital and philanthropic objectives.
Advise on tax structuring for investments across public and private markets, including direct equity, debt, convertible instruments and complex securities.
Partner with the investment team to evaluate tax considerations during due diligence, transaction structuring, exits and reinvestment decisions.
Compliance & Reporting
Oversee and ensure accurate, timely filing of all federal, state, local, and international tax returns for entities including partnerships, corporations, LLCs and trusts.
Manage partnership tax reporting, K-1 preparation, and tax allocations tied to multi-jurisdictional investment structures.
Ensure compliance with information reporting regimes, including FATCA and withholding requirements.
Lead tax audits and coordinate with external accountants and advisors.
Assess and monitor tax risks across investment portfolios and operations.
Process, Controls & Technology
Build and enhance tax processes, internal controls and documentation.
Partner with finance and accounting teams to integrate tax planning into reporting workflows.
Relationship & Advisor Management
Serve as primary tax liaison with external advisors and counsel.
Communicate complex tax matters clearly with principals and senior stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; CPA strongly preferred; JD or MST a plus.
10+ years of progressive tax experience.
Deep expertise in partnership taxation and alternative investments.
Strong communication skills and ability to operate in a lean environment.
Why This Opportunity
