
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Tax Director to lead and oversee all tax functions for a sophisticated family investment office backed by permanent capital that invests across the capital structure — including private and public companies, technology, software, financial services and a diversified set of alternative assets. The Tax Director will be a strategic partner to senior leadership, supporting investment decision-making with best-in-class tax planning, compliance, risk mitigation and reporting. This role is ideal for a self-starter who enjoys working in a high-engagement, entrepreneurial environment with long-term investment horizons and complex structures.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Tax Planning & Investment Support
- Develop and implement proactive tax strategies for the family office and its investment vehicles, aligned with long-term capital and philanthropic objectives.
- Advise on tax structuring for investments across public and private markets, including direct equity, debt, convertible instruments and complex securities.
- Partner with the investment team to evaluate tax considerations during due diligence, transaction structuring, exits and reinvestment decisions.
- Compliance & Reporting
- Oversee and ensure accurate, timely filing of all federal, state, local, and international tax returns for entities including partnerships, corporations, LLCs and trusts.
- Manage partnership tax reporting, K-1 preparation, and tax allocations tied to multi-jurisdictional investment structures.
- Ensure compliance with information reporting regimes, including FATCA and withholding requirements.
- Lead tax audits and coordinate with external accountants and advisors.
- Assess and monitor tax risks across investment portfolios and operations.
- Process, Controls & Technology
- Build and enhance tax processes, internal controls and documentation.
- Partner with finance and accounting teams to integrate tax planning into reporting workflows.
- Relationship & Advisor Management
- Serve as primary tax liaison with external advisors and counsel.
- Communicate complex tax matters clearly with principals and senior stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; CPA strongly preferred; JD or MST a plus.
- 10+ years of progressive tax experience.
- Deep expertise in partnership taxation and alternative investments.
- Strong communication skills and ability to operate in a lean environment.
