Intermediate Architect / Architectural Designer Location
New York, NY, US Compensation
Salary range: $70,000 - $85,000 annually Position Purpose
The Intermediate Architect / Architectural Designer works as part of the project design team to create and develop designs, produce drawings, and assist in overseeing the construction process for various projects. The role embodies the studio culture and supports the team in translating the aesthetic vision into projects. Key Design Expectations
Research and develop architectural design concepts that match the client's aesthetic, functional goals, and budget. Assist Director, Associate Director, or Senior Architect on the design and development of assigned projects; create drawings, renderings, and any relevant items for client presentations. For smaller projects the Intermediate Architect may complete these tasks independently under the guidance of a Principal. Assist with the development of MEP systems on select projects. Documentation & Project Delivery
Prepare drawing sets and documentation to be filed with local agencies including historic and landmark oversight. Manage project specifications and schedules with accurate product information for all windows, doors, hardware, plumbing, appliances, lighting, and finishes. Assist coordination with project consultants and engineers to ensure deliverables are coordinated and aligned to project goals. Work with project leadership to ensure projects adhere to all applicable codes and energy standards. Assist in the preparation of applicable AIA contracts. Assist with and manage preparation of bid drawings, coordinate bid walk‑throughs, answer contractor questions, and create bid level documents for review. Assist with Construction Administration and Contract Administration throughout construction, including first reviews of submittals, shop drawings, samples, and mockups. Attend site visits and circulate accurate meeting minutes to the client and project team. Create documentation of construction progress in written and photographic form. Work with designated project lead to respond to contractor RFIs, create punch lists, and review contractor payment requisitions. Ensure project files and documents are updated throughout construction. Assist project staff with procurement of architectural or construction items. Project Administrative Responsibilities
Work across multiple deadlines, project scopes, and aesthetics simultaneously. Maintain accurate project action item lists in the task management process. Track time and maintain detailed timesheets, reviewing weekly budgeted project hours and adhering to project schedules. Attend client, consultant, and contractor meetings, document and circulate accurate meeting minutes. Communicate with clients and colleagues in a timely manner and in the appropriate tone of the studio culture. General Studio Responsibilities
Efficiently work with senior leadership on multiple projects; demonstrate strong communications skills. Participate in training, development, and review of Junior Designers & Interns. Participate in studio culture building initiatives. Perform various additional administrative tasks as requested. Business Development
Maintain and grow vendor contacts and relationships. Attend industry events, trade shows, and openings. Attend continuing education classes and lunch and learn opportunities. Maintain and grow thoughtful, professional relationships with vendors. Participate in at least one internal office committee. Client Management
Maintain and grow thoughtful professional relationships with clients. Ensure clients are kept informed of any issues for the project in a timely and professional manner. Standard Qualifications
Professional Degree in Architecture. 4 years of full‑time work experience in the architecture industry. 3+ years working as Junior Architect / Junior Architectural Designer. Required Skills
Strong communication and presentation skills. Strong space planning experience. Strong hand and digital drafting, and 3D modeling skills. Experience preparing construction and filing sets. Experience selecting and specifying fixtures, materials, and finishes. Experience managing purchasing and budgets. Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, G‑Suite, and Microsoft Office. Benefits
