Position Summary The Produce Clerk primarily cuts, portions, and/or weighs fresh produce, places it in the appropriate container, and labels it to be displayed for sale.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Cut, weigh, and package various produce items such as papaya, melons, pineapples, etc.

Portion out, weigh, and package various produce items such as apples, beans, etc.

Place produce in various containers such as trays wrapped in plastic, plastic bags with twist ties, or clear plastic containers with lids for proper display.

Stock and rotate department products to ensure freshness and date control.

Operate department equipment and tools such as sharp knives, scales, and wrapping devices.

Retrieve, load, and unload products and merchandise onto cart to move from back storage or prep room to displays.

Provide attention to customer needs; greet, assist, and thank customers in a prompt, courteous, and friendly manner.

Keep work area clean, orderly, and free from safety hazards; maintain awareness of floor conditions; ensure all safety measures are taken to protect customers, vendors, and employees.

Report all accidents promptly to manager on duty.

Promptly report maintenance and safety issues to manager on duty.

Attend and participate in departmental and store meetings.

Maintain punctuality and good attendance in compliance with company policies.

Perform other work‑related duties as required to accomplish the objectives of the position.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities

May perform general cleaning duties such as mopping and sweeping.

Assist with the unloading of delivery trucks.

Assist manager on duty with any area throughout the store when needed or scheduled.

Minimum Requirements High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred; minimum of 18 years of age.

Competencies, Skills and/or Qualifications

Ability to properly use department equipment such as knives, wrapping device, scale, etc. to accomplish essential duties.

Possess adequate knife handling skills and knife speed.

Good interpersonal skills.

Ability to read and speak English and Spanish preferred.

Ability to understand and follow instructions in both English and Spanish preferred.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions in one‑on‑one and small group situations.

Takes responsibility for own actions.

Ability to work hours and days scheduled, including holidays and weekends.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.

Basic mathematical skills; ability to use and understand weights and measures.

Physical Demands

Stand in one place for extended periods of time.

Walk, reach with hands and arms, use repetitive motion with hands and arms.

Carry, lift, and/or move departmental products and merchandise; push and pull carts.

Stoop or bend at the waist, twist back and neck, kneel, crouch or bend at the knees.
