Store/Tienda #14 – 1263 West Flagler Street, Miami, 33135. Shift/Turno Part-Time/Medio Tiempo – Afternoon/Por la tarde. The Produce Clerk primarily cuts, portions and weighs fresh produce, places it in the appropriate container and labels it to be placed on display for sale. Duties and responsibilities should be carried out in a manner consistent with the goals, values and operating principles of Sedano’s Supermarkets and in conformity with all laws and regulations governing the company. Every employee follows the policies and procedures of the department and the company to ensure smooth operations, maintains a safe environment, wears the proper uniform or dress code, keeps the store stocked and organized, and provides excellent customer service on a regular basis. Responsibilities
Cut, weigh and package various produce items such as papaya, melons, pineapples, etc. Portion out, weigh and package various produce items such as apples, beans, etc. Place produce in containers for display (trays, plastic bags, or transparent containers with lids) Stock and rotate department products to ensure freshness and date control Operate department equipment and tools such as sharp knives, scales and wrapping devices Retrieve, load and unload products onto carts for movement between back storage, prep room, and displays Provide attention to customer needs; greet, assist and thank customers in a prompt, courteous and friendly manner Maintain a clean and safe work area; monitor floor conditions and ensure safety measures to protect customers, vendors and employees Report accidents and maintenance/safety issues to the manager on duty Attend and participate in departmental and store meetings; maintain punctuality and good attendance Perform other work-related duties as required to accomplish the objectives of the position Secondary Duties and Responsibilities
May perform general cleaning duties such as mopping and sweeping Assist with unloading delivery trucks Assist manager on duty with other areas as needed Minimum Requirements – Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or GED preferred; minimum of 18 years of age Competencies, Skills and Qualifications
Ability to properly use department equipment such as knives, wrapping devices, scales, etc. Knife handling skills and knife speed Good interpersonal skills Ability to read and speak English and Spanish preferred Ability to understand and follow instructions in both English and Spanish preferred Ability to present information clearly in one-on-one and small group situations with managers, customers and the public Takes responsibility for own actions Ability to work hours and days scheduled, including holidays and weekends Basic mathematical skills; ability to use and understand weights and measures Physical Demands
Stand, walk, and use hands and fingers; reach with hands and arms; use repetitive motion Use sense of smell; talk and hear; close vision and eye-hand coordination Carry, lift and move departmental products and merchandise; push and pull carts Occasionally climb ladders or step stools; sit, balance, kneel or bend at the knees The duties are performed in a grocery store environment with moderate noise. The job may involve using gloves, knives, wrapping devices, scales, stock carts, pallet jacks, coolers, ice machines, balers, and cleaning supplies.
