Job Description Summary The Corporate and Community Relations Coordinator, Volunteers is a highly visible, relationship-driven role within The People Concern’s Development team. This position serves as a key ambassador for the organization, connecting volunteers, corporate partners, and community members to our mission through meaningful, hands-on engagement.

The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, onboarding, and supporting volunteers across programs and sites, while also playing an active role in community outreach, fundraising efforts, and major events. This is an in-person, externally facing role that requires regular presence in the office and at program sites, as well as participation in community events throughout Los Angeles.

Responsibilities

Serve as a primary external point of contact for individual, group, and corporate volunteers.

Recruit, onboard, and steward volunteers in alignment with organizational needs and community partnerships.

Coordinate volunteer placements across program sites in collaboration with internal staff.

Communicate clearly and professionally with volunteers, staff, and external partners.

Attend and support volunteer activities on-site, including evenings and weekends as needed.

Represent the organization at community events, volunteer fairs, and partner activations.

Build and maintain strong relationships with volunteers, corporate partners, and community stakeholders.

Support Development-led fundraising efforts by engaging volunteers in events, campaigns, and stewardship opportunities.

Assist with major fundraising and community events, including planning, on-site execution, and follow-up.

Collaborate with Corporate & Community Relations staff to support employee volunteer days and corporate activations.

Manage volunteer onboarding processes, including orientations and compliance requirements.

Track volunteer participation, hours, and engagement data using internal systems and reporting tools.

Maintain accurate records and documentation related to volunteer engagement.

Support volunteer recognition, appreciation, and retention efforts.

Work cross-functionally with Program, Safety, HR, and Communications teams to ensure a positive and compliant volunteer experience.

Assist with special projects and other Development initiatives as assigned.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED or Equivalent

1–3 years of experience in volunteer coordination, community engagement, nonprofit development, fundraising, or a related field

Passion for community engagement, volunteerism, and mission-driven work

Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences

Comfort representing an organization externally at community events and partner engagements

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines

Ability to work collaboratively across teams and departments

Comfort working in a fast-paced, people-facing environment

Willingness and ability to work in the office and travel regularly to program sites and community locations

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree

Comfortable with public speaking and representing an organization externally

Highly organized with strong follow-through and attention to detail

Ability to manage multiple priorities and work across teams

Experience with volunteer coordination, community engagement, fundraising, or nonprofit development preferred

Comfortable working evenings or weekends occasionally for events and activations

Proficiency with CRM or volunteer management systems a plus

Work Environment This is a highly interactive, in-person role rooted in relationship-building and community engagement. The Volunteer Coordinator will be based out of The People Concern’s Arlington Headquarters and will regularly travel to program sites and community locations across Los Angeles to support volunteer activities, events, and partnerships. This position requires a hands-on presence and consistent on-site engagement and is not a remote or work-from-home role.
