Summary
Position located at West Point Recreational Swim. Incentives will not be paid.
Eligibility Open to U.S. Citizens, Nationals or those who owe allegiance to the U.S. United States (U.S.) Citizens and Non-U.S. Nationals who have resided in the U.S. or U.S. territory for three (3) or more continuous years immediately preceding the start of Federal affiliation.
Duties
Serve as a lifeguard for indoor and outdoor pools and work under the direction of the Installation Aquatics Program Manager. Employ safety rules for the protection of pool guests. Maintain daily logs, reports and records as required.
Responsible for lifeguarding guests in attendance at the assigned aquatics facility. Provide maximum pool area surveillance and respond to emergencies; rescue pool patrons and administer first aid as required.
Assist in the conduct of aquatic swimming and water survival training according to TC 21-21 or with American Red Cross swim lessons. Participate in required training (on-the-job training, emergency rescue drills, emergency action plan simulations).
Assist in maintaining pool and area clean and free from hazards. Perform periodic water tests and report results to the pool leader on duty. Provide information to swimmers regarding safety/health/admission rules and procedures.
Tactfully warn patrons who repeatedly disregard safety rules and follow facility Standard Operating Procedures for disciplinary actions. Assist in coaching or preparing the competitive and non-competitive swimming programs as required.
Requirements
Direct Deposit and Social Security Card required.
Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
One-year probationary period may be required.
Complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check satisfactorily.
Work hours may involve weekends, weekdays, holiday and night duty.
May be assigned to irregular duties or when needed for special recreational events and related requirements.
Lifeguards must have good vision (20/40 or better, with glasses, contacts or uncorrected).
Position requires lifting and carrying items weighing up to 45 pounds.
In case of exposure to infectious disease, incumbent must obtain the Hepatitis B vaccination series within 24 hours.
Continuous exposure to sun and prolonged periods of high temperature and humidity.
Must have current health assessment documenting good physical health, free from communicable disease in accordance with Army Policy.
Incumbent must follow environmental safeguards and wear personal protective equipment.
This is a dual compensation exempt position; all GS and NAF employees are eligible to apply.
Fifteen-year-old lifeguards must comply with DOL Child Labor Laws.
All required certifications must be kept current.
Qualifications
Possess and maintain the following certifications: Lifeguarding and First Aid (American Red Cross or equivalent); CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED; First Aid.
Highly Preferred:
Waterfront Lifeguard Certification.
Education No specific education qualification required.
Additional Information Initial Cut-Off Date:
Monday, February 2, 2026 (Applications must be received by 11:59 PM EST). Subsequent referrals to the Hiring Manager will occur every two weeks thereafter based on management's need to fill positions.
