Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Assistant Director for Assessment for Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. The Assistant Director for Assessment for the Division of Undergraduate Education will conduct research and assessment for the Division’s programs and initiatives, as well as for other Provost’s Office initiatives related to students’ academic and career success.
Responsibilities
Leads the design, execution, and interpretation of qualitative and quantitative assessment methodologies for the Division of Undergraduate Education and selected Provost’s Office initiatives.
Conducts advanced analyses, synthesizes complex data into actionable insights, and advises senior leadership on program effectiveness, student outcomes, and strategic improvements.
Develops assessment frameworks, evaluating institutional initiatives related to student engagement, performance, and retention, and translating findings into evidence-based recommendations.
Collaborates with senior leadership to establish assessment priorities, and chairs the Undergraduate Education Assessment Committee.
Recommends and conducts quantitative and qualitative research, investigating factors that affect student engagement, performance, and retention.
Provides training and consultation to Undergraduate Education Division staff on program evaluation and assessment practices.
Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience
A master’s degree in statistics, economics, public policy or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
A minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in assessment, institutional research, program evaluation, or applied qualitative and quantitative analysis in higher education or a comparably complex organization.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Understanding and practice of program evaluation, qualitative and quantitative analysis.
Experience with statistical programs such as Stata or R.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and attention to detail.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment.
Ability to self‑direct management of multiple priorities.
Ability to interact comfortably and professionally with diverse student, staff, and faculty populations.
High proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to create, manage, and analyze large databases in Microsoft Excel and Tableau.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in program evaluation at an institution of higher education or equivalent type of organization.
A broad understanding of Rutgers University and the academic programs offered by RU‑NB.
Stata or R, Microsoft Office Software, Qualtrics, Tableau, Canvas, and the other university learning management systems as needed.

Work Arrangement Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 or the applicable provisions of relevant collective negotiations agreements, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.
