Job Summary As a sworn Peace Officer, this position creates and maintains a safe and secure environment for community members and the campus. This role performs duties typical of a sworn police officer, including public safety enforcement, security, and campus services. It is a designated position of trust and typically reports to a Division Sergeant or Lieutenant. Employment is conditional upon successful completion of pre-employment checks and maintaining required credentials, including a valid Georgia driver\'s license. This position is designated as Campus Security Authority (CSA) and reports crimes and other incidents to the Clery Act Compliance Officer for inclusion in the Annual Campus Security Report in accordance with the Clery Act and GGC policy.
Responsibilities
Responds to reported incidents and emergencies; conducts investigations of crimes, traffic offenses, parking violations, and policy infractions; prepares reports for legal prosecution or referral to appropriate campus service; secures and preserves evidence; testifies in court or college proceedings as needed.
Provides community-oriented police services by working with employees, students, and visitors to address safety concerns; renders life-saving aid as needed; coordinates emergency responses and evacuations.
Physically controls violent persons when needed and maintains confidentiality of information encountered during employment.
Directs traffic on campus and may manage barricades and cones as required; may push disabled vehicles from traffic incidents.
Performs duties under general supervision in varied conditions and may provide mutual aid to other agencies.
Supervisors monitor activities via observation, cameras, and radio; reports are reviewed for accuracy and compliance.
Work hours may include day, evening, or morning shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime; may be reassigned to specialized units as needed.
Duties and responsibilities vary by division; perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High School diploma or GED
Twenty-one years of age or older
GAPOST certified peace officer in good standing; a current GAPOST profile must be submitted as part of the application
Applicants certified by another agency may be considered with proper documentation of certification and training records
All certified applicants must demonstrate good standing with no prior termination, investigation, suspension, or delinquent training requirements
Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree or higher (2-year or 4-year degrees)
Current employment in good standing or recent service as a GAPOST peace officer
Knowledge of police methods, procedures, and applicable laws; ability to apply to campus scenarios
Knowledge of legal terminology and applications of law enforcement procedures, traffic and criminal law
Salary Proposed Salary:
45,300 - 50,900
Salary offer will be based on experience, qualifications, internal equity, budget, and guidelines.

Effective communication by telephone, radio, or in person; ability to work with diverse groups
Ability to collaborate with other departments, community outreach, and safety programming
Strong organizational skills; ability to learn radio codes and follow instructions
Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime; provide court testimony when required
Proficiency with basic computer programs and police record systems
Knowledge of GAPOST officer duties and relevant federal, state, and local laws
Ability to prepare clear written documents and maintain accurate records
Ability to respond appropriately in emergencies, perform CPR/AED, stop-the-bleed, and use naloxone; safe operation of police vehicles and equipment
Ability to build relationships across a diverse campus community and apply disciplinary actions as needed
Demonstrates diplomacy, fairness, sound judgment, and discretion; maintains confidentiality
Strong observation and memory skills to recall details of incidents and locations
