We’re looking for an
Events and Communications Associate
to join our team.
What You’ll Do The Events and Communications Associate supports how The Bulwark shows up in the world—by helping execute live events, media engagement, and rapid-response communications that extend the reach and impact of our journalism.
You’ll juggle multiple projects, anticipate needs, and remain focused and organized in public-facing moments. In addition to supporting event logistics, you will work closely with the VP, Marketing Communications & Live Events on our communications efforts, from rapid-response moments to long-term campaign planning. This position offers meaningful hands-on exposure to both events and communications and is well-suited to someone early in their career who is eager to learn and take on increasing responsibility over time.
Responsibilities
Marketing & Events: Support the planning and execution of live, virtual, and hybrid events, with a strong focus on audience and talent experience, from preparation through day-of execution.
Marketing & Events: Draft and send attendee communications, and respond to audience inquiries via email and social media to ensure a positive, professional event experience.
Marketing & Events: Coordinate across internal teams and external partners, including vendors, graphic designers, and content teams, to ensure events are well-run and on schedule.
Marketing & Events: Research and build targeted audience lists, track registrations and attendance, and help analyze event performance.
Marketing & Events: Manage event logistics, including booking photographers, coordinating travel and accommodations, and tracking, organizing, and shipping event materials (signage, swag, collateral).
Marketing & Events: Troubleshoot issues in real time, managing competing priorities while responding thoughtfully and effectively.
Marketing & Events: Provide responsive customer service support for event- and merchandise-related inquiries.
Marketing & Events: Maintain accurate records of contracts and agreements, and process expense reports and invoices related to events.
Communications: Book and coordinate interviews for spokespeople, managing scheduling, logistics, and follow-up with exceptional attention to detail.
Communications: Monitor media coverage and breaking news, and provide timely press clips and summaries to internal teams.
Communications: Respond quickly, clearly, and accurately to incoming inquiries from reporters, escalating as appropriate.
Communications: Maintain and update media lists and databases.
What You Bring
1-2+ years of professional experience in events, marketing, media relations, executive support, or a related field.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines at once.
Experience operating in a supporting, execution-focused role, with an eagerness to learn and grow over time.
Clear written communication skills and comfort corresponding with a range of stakeholders.
A collaborative approach and ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
Proactive and reliable, with a strong sense of follow-through and anticipation of needs.
Experience supporting live events and communications efforts is a plus.
Experience coordinating with VIPs or executive-level stakeholders is a plus.
Genuine interest in media and in politics and public discourse.
Willingness to travel and work non-standard hours, including occasional weekends or evenings, as needed.
