Key Account Manager – Long Island – Rare & Specialty Products
Location: Long Island, NY
Job Summary
Responsible for launching and growing market share for the Rare & Specialty Products (RSP) Business Unit in a defined geographic area. Drives demand through the commercial payer channel and builds relationships with ophthalmologists, optometrists, primary care physicians, and clinic staff. Requires a self‑starter, solutions‑focused mindset, strong organizational skills, and the ability to multitask in a dynamic ophthalmic environment. 80% travel.
Responsibilities
Meet or exceed quarterly sales revenue and product goals.
Develop new customers while converting the existing customer base.
Analyze, develop, and grow the territory business with an entrepreneurial mindset.
Drive demand through organic pull‑through and deploy reimbursement solutions.
Call ophthalmic and primary care healthcare professionals in defined markets.
Develop critical physician and staff relationships within the assigned geography.
Utilize internal resources when developing quarterly action plans and partnering with accounts.
Record all sales activity in CRM in a timely manner.
Proficient in PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Maintain an in-depth, professional understanding of our ophthalmic product portfolio and the competition.
Articulate the clinical benefits of the products/formulations and our solutions in a compliant manner.
Act with a sense of urgency at all customer‑care levels and follow‑up.
Collaborate with internal departments and peers.
Travel routinely throughout the assigned geography.
Expect approximately 80% field travel; overnight stays may be required.
Comply with all state and federal legislation and regulatory requirements.
Manage expenses responsibly and ethically.
Think resourcefully to achieve success without a full roadmap.
Act as the liaison for customers with continual follow‑up.
Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
High‑energy, self‑starter mindset.
Ability to build, develop, and foster long‑standing relationships with customers.
Ability to quickly absorb product and practice information and offer resonant solutions.
Experience executing strategic and targeted business plans around priorities and goals.
Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Clinical understanding in ophthalmology preferred.
Knowledge of payer landscape (Commercial, Medicare Part D, dual eligibility) beneficial.
Knowledge of physician decision‑making for patient care across therapies.
Proficient or willing to become proficient with the CRM system.
