Camp Counselors Position Summary
The Seasonal Camp Supervisor assists the Day Camp Director with the planning and operation of the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club Summer Day Camp for members’ children. This position provides daily supervision of camp counselors and has primary responsibility for the Craft Station, including planning and leading age-appropriate art activities for campers ages 4 through 12. The summer camp operates from June through August, with staff training beginning in late May. This role requires working both indoors and outdoors and the ability to remain active throughout the camp day. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience preferred Two or more years of experience working with children in a group setting preferred Experience with camp programs or activity planning Experience leading arts and crafts activities for children preferred Ability to work scheduled summer hours and additional preparation time in the spring Ability to lift up to 50 pounds Ability to perform physical duties including lifting, bending, reaching, and standing for extended periods CPR certification preferred Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Staff Leadership and Professional Conduct
Serve as a positive role model for campers and staff Follow and uphold all Club standards for service, conduct, and professionalism Communicate clearly and professionally with staff, members, and families Work collaboratively with the Camp Director and camp team to meet daily program needs Represent the Club in a professional manner at all times Program Support
Assist with the planning and evaluation of camp programming Coordinate with Club staff and vendors to support daily activities Assist with planning and distribution of daily meals and snacks Engage with campers and families in a warm, respectful, and professional manner Monitor campers’ basic needs and any special accommodations Lead and assist with daily activities, including crafts, outdoor games, sports, team-building activities, and group programs Craft Station Leadership
Plan and lead a daily art or craft activity for campers ages 4–12 Prepare all materials and supplies in advance of each activity Provide clear instruction and appropriate supervision during projects Adapt activities to meet the needs of different age groups and ability levels Maintain a clean, organized, and safe craft area Monitor and manage craft supply inventory Safety and Recordkeeping
Enforce all camp safety rules and procedures Address behavioral concerns promptly and appropriately Report any suspected child abuse in accordance with Club policy Maintain accurate records, including attendance, incident reports, and daily activity logs Oversee Lost and Found Department Responsibilities
Assist with set-up and clean-up of meals and daily activities Monitor and maintain appropriate inventory levels Maintain the organization and appearance of all camp areas Communicate regularly with the Athletics Director and Camp Team regarding ongoing needs and projects Performance Standards
