Associate Director / Director, Business Development Cartography Biosciences is a therapeutics organization creating the first atlas to identify targets that are specific enough to only engage cancerous cells, broad enough to work across cancer cells and patients, and safe enough to sidestep toxic side effects. Founded by Kevin Parker, Howard Chang, and Ansu Satpathy, Cartography is bridging immunology and computation to understand the critical differences between normal and cancerous cells, ultimately solving the challenge of finding the safest, most selective targets for a variety of immunotherapeutic approaches.

This Associate Director / Director will be a key member of Cartography’s business development team and integral to the growth and success of the company. This individual will play a major role in the development and execution of our corporate strategy and will collaborate with a dynamic, highly-innovative team working to build the next generation of cancer therapies. This role will also support capital strategy efforts by contributing to strategic analyses, transaction positioning, and executive-level materials used in discussions with investors, bankers, and potential partners. A successful candidate will bring strong business acumen, strategic thinking, and relationship-building skills critical to interacting with both internal and external stakeholders. This role is expected to be onsite in South San Francisco 3-4 days per week.

Responsibilities:

Work closely with the Head of Business Development and cross-functional stakeholders (e.g., R&D, Finance, Legal, etc.) to support key strategic goals and execute strategic alliances and transactions

Lead the research and analysis of partnering opportunities, including comps, business case development, and valuation models

Drive commercial assessments, revenue forecasts and planning for internal programs and external asset opportunities for priority diseases as identified in collaboration with clinical, scientific and business leadership

Support capital and financing-related activities by preparing analyses and materials used in investor, banker, and strategic partner discussions, including transaction scenarios, asset positioning, and value drivers relevant to private and public capital markets

Manage partnering process including deal structuring / term sheet development, financial analysis of economic terms, coordinating diligence, supporting negotiation and execution of definitive agreements

Coordinate alliance management activities with new and existing partners to ensure contractual obligations, governance processes, and strategic objectives are met, while supporting consistent internal and external messaging

Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure consistent, accurate, and compelling external communication of corporate strategy, pipeline progress, and partnering activities across investor presentations, press releases, and other external-facing materials

Monitor industry trends, competitive landscape, and emerging technologies in the biopharma space, including tracking relevant IPOs, financings, and partnership structures to inform corporate and business development strategy

Assist in the development of presentations and materials for senior management and the Board of Directors, including content supporting strategic planning, partnering decisions, and capital or IPO readiness initiatives

Attend partnering conferences, scientific congresses, and networking events on behalf of company to build relationships with prospective partners, investors, and other external stakeholders

Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

6+ years of experience in the biopharma or related industry (i.e. investment banking, management consulting, venture capital), with exposure to transactions and capital-related initiatives

BA, BS or equivalent required; MBA degree or other advanced degree in a related field (MD, PharmD, MS or PhD) preferred

Prior experience in biopharma partnering, including search and evaluation, transaction execution, or alliance support; familiarity with how partnerships intersect with financing and company-building stages is a plus

Demonstrated ability to work cross functionally on multiple projects simultaneously with the ability to influence and drive stakeholders to decisions.

Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, including financial modeling and valuation, with the ability to analyze complex business opportunities and the financial and strategic implications

Experience supporting market assessments, portfolio prioritization, or long-range planning efforts, and translating clinical, commercial, and financial analyses into clear recommendations for leadership

High attention to detail, sound judgment, and a disciplined, fact-based approach to decision-making in high-visibility and time-sensitive environments

Exceptional written and oral communication skills with the ability to build relationships and interact effectively with stakeholders at various levels
