Role Overview: The Manager of Mortgage Lending oversees daily residential mortgage operations-including origination, processing, underwriting, secondary markets, and closings-at Suffolk Credit Union. The role ensures compliance, operational performance, Encompass LOS accuracy, vendor integration management, audit readiness, and continuous improvement of workflows while supporting strategic initiatives under the VP's leadership.

Responsibilities

Oversees mortgage staff including hiring, training, coaching, scheduling, and performance management.

Manages mortgage origination workflows to ensure efficiency, pipeline control, and regulatory compliance.

Provides daily operational support to back-office staff, resolving escalations and promoting a high-performance service culture.

Monitors mortgage production, performance, and regulatory adherence to ensure goals are met.

Resolves escalated member issues and provides direct member service as needed.

Manages Encompass (Ellie Mae) LOS configuration, program coding, scripts, integrations, and regulatory compliance for supporting systems.

Oversees third-party origination (TPO) loan submissions and identifies program or documentation deficiencies.

Ensures loan documentation accuracy and compliance with HMDA and internal reporting requirements.

Serves as liaison with vendors including correspondent lenders, closing attorneys, title companies, and servicing partners.

Reviews and approves loan denials, exception requests, rate extensions, and delegated certificates.

Oversees mortgage funding, closings, loan modifications, audits, and post-closing quality control.

Prepares production reporting, tracks pipeline activity, supports cross-functional operations, and drives continuous process improvement aligned with the credit union's mission.

Achieves a minimum of "Satisfactory" rating on internal audits and examinations.

Essential Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required. Three (3) to five (5) years of direct experience can be substituted for education requirements. Five (5) years of experience required in a Mortgage related field with two (2) to three (3) years supervisory experience. Experience with Encompass LOS and secondary market platform preferred.

Knowledge of FNMA, FHLMC and FHLB underwriting guidelines

Knowledge of credit and risk analysis.

Knowledge of credit union products, services, policies, regulations, and procedures.

Working knowledge of loan application processes.

Demonstrated skill in member/customer service.

Skill with independent problem-solving.

Ability to communicate successfully with members and outside parties.

Ability to express oneself clearly and articulately both orally and in writing.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines through effective time management and organization.

Ability to exercise tact and responsibility with handling confidential information.

Ability to work with general supervision of daily activities.

Registration with NMLS
