Overview
This position will serve as the Seasonal Camp Director for DPF 4-H Camp, a residential summer camp owned and operated by Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Nassau County, located in Riverhead, New York. The primary responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: all aspects (administrative and program) under the direction of the Executive Director. Ensures compliance with the camp safety plan submitted to the Suffolk County Department of Health and ACA standards. Responsible for the overall safety, management and evaluation of the camp facility including rental groups during camp season. This position accepts and performs all position duties outlined in this position description, and performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned and deemed appropriate by the Executive Director for the successful running of a camp program. Note: This position does not include cabin responsibilities unless deemed necessary.
Required Qualifications
Must be at least 25 years of age or have a Bachelor’s Degree to comply with NYS Department of Health regulations. DPF 4-H Camp may apply for an age waiver to the NYS Department of Health as needed. Must have at least 24 weeks of administrative or supervisory experience in camping or related experience. Ability to work non-traditional work schedule including evenings and weekends. Ability to meet the travel requirements of the position. Ability to transport passengers and equipment with or without accommodations and meet acceptable driving checks and standards. Ability to clearly communicate and read and write in English. Proficiency with Windows-based software including use of the internet and Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher and Excel. Ability to communicate effectively through verbal, written and visual channels using traditional methods and educational tools as well as electronic technology. Ability and willingness to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity. Ability to relate effectively to co-workers, advisors, community and professional leaders.
Preferred Qualifications
American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer with AED. American Red Cross Responding to Emergencies with Epi Pen. American Red Cross Basic Swim Instructor. American Red Cross Lifeguarding. Suffolk County Food Handlers Certification. Approved Belay Operator. Level 1 Archery Instructor of 4-H Shooting Sports. Level 1 Small Boat Instructor or Canoe/Kayak Instructor. Knowledge of equine instruction.
Position Details
This is a seasonal exempt, full-time position. The seasonal annual salary for this position will range from $14,000-$17,000.
