
Associate/Staff - Quest Designer

Obsidian is looking for a designer passionate about creating amazing worlds and gameplay experiences to join us in developing our next great multi-platform RPG.
At Obsidian, Quest Designers build our core game experience. They invent the places and quests that fill our worlds and then build them with our tools in collaboration with the larger team to bring them to life in game. The ideal candidate is someone who loves RPG gaming, be that on the dining table, a monitor, or a video call. We’re looking for someone who can create fun, deep, engaging stories and adventures and adapt them on the fly to suit a player’s choices and needs.
This position requires the ability to work onsite or in a hybrid capacity at the Obsidian Entertainment office in Irvine, CA.
Responsibilities
Design and implement quest and area content in Unreal Engine and proprietary tools Script quests with branching dialogues and player choices , setting up encounters, filling the world with details and lore, inventing new places with history, culture, and problems, populating our world and bringing it to life Understand and internalize the game's creative vision to m ake awesome creative decisions Work with other designers and the game’s directors to ensure content is part of a cohesive open-world experience Requirements
Extensive experience as a game master and player for tabletop RPGs Experience creating quests/missions on paper or digitally A solid design sense, good communication and organization skills, and the ability to work with team members in a collaborative, goal-oriented way Ability to receive and apply feedback iteratively on content Pluses
Familiarity with Obsidian games Experience working with Unreal Engine Experience in the writing and creating of tabletop games or supplemental materials for existing RPGs (such as modules) Examples and demonstrations of game master experience. This could include any of the following: videos/streams of game mastering, maps, written modules or compendiums for D&D or other tabletop games Includes videos, screenshots, and/or design documents Obsidian Entertainment is proud to be an equal opportunity employer and we are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
