Our client is one of the mid-Atlantic's top General Contractors. They are family-owned and have been in business for over 50 years. They have multiple offices throughout the area, with the majority of their work located between Northern VA and Richmond. Their bread and butter is Multifamily construction with the majority of their projects valued between $30 and $100M, however they have completed projects worth $200M+. They have been consistently growing in headcount and revenue year over year and as a result are looking to grow their team. They are currently looking to hire a Lead Superintendent to join their Richmond office. This person will be dedicated to overseeing their large-scale multifamily projects, all within 1-1.5 hours of Richmond.

Job Description

The Lead Superintendent - Multifamily Projects - Richmond, VA will be responsible for:

  • Leading all on-site construction activities for large-scale multifamily projects, ensuring work is delivered safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project plans.
  • Driving the construction schedule by proactively sequencing work, identifying risks, and resolving field issues in real time.
  • Managing daily coordination with subcontractors, suppliers, and inspectors to maintain smooth field operations.
  • Enforcing strict safety protocols and ensuring all team members comply with OSHA and company standards.
  • Reviewing drawings, specifications, and submittals to verify constructability and prevent rework.
  • Collaborating closely with the Project Manager on schedule updates, change orders, procurement needs, and budget considerations.
  • Overseeing quality control efforts by conducting inspections, verifying installation methods, and ensuring adherence to project standards.
  • Communicating progress, challenges, and solutions to internal stakeholders and ownership groups.
  • Mentoring assistant superintendents and field staff to promote growth, consistency, and strong jobsite leadership.
  • Resolving field conflicts quickly-coordinating with design teams and subcontractors to keep work moving.
  • Managing project closeout activities, including punch lists, inspections, and turnover documentation.

The Successful Applicant

The Lead Superintendent - Multifamily Projects - Richmond, VA will have:

  • 10+ years of field supervision experience, with at least 5 years leading ground-up multifamily projects.
  • Proven experience delivering podium, wrap, garden-style, or high-rise multifamily developments.
  • Strong ability in reading drawings, interpreting specifications, and managing complex construction sequencing.
  • Track record of maintaining schedule, driving teams, and holding subs accountable in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • OSHA 30 preferred.
